Metallic Window Tint
« on: November 27, 2012, 03:54:37 PM »
We're at the tin-tent stage now and want to install window tint before much more interior work is done.  Read all we could find in the archives and now we're ready to purchase a roll of window tint for $203 plus shipping.  Should do the whole bus, the cars, the neighbors cars, etc., with plenty left over.  But, before we buy and apply this stuff, we'd sure appreciate the collective wisdom of the board.  Anyone see any problems installing Llumar ATR35CH, which is metallic (not dyed) and has a 38% tint on the windows of a 1978 MCI 5C, which appears to the untrained eye to have single pane windows?  Anyone have experience with this stuff or this brand?  Words of wisdom?

THANKS!

Can't say I know much about the whole subject.  We have a film on all the side windows, but I don't know what it is.  One thing I did notice is that when I had coated the closed off windows with mirror vinyl, the summer surface temp in direct sunlight was 20-30 degrees cooler on the mirror vinyl than on the film covered windows.  I was thinking that, if I ever re-coat the windows, I would go with as a reflection as possible.
You don't have to believe everything you think.

AFTER ACTION REPORT:

Well, we purchased that roll and applied it to all windows.  It took Gigi and me about three days to finish the job.  Not hard at all (it helps that all windows are flat!).

There is a noticeable difference in temp, privacy, and cutting the glare on shiney objects on sunny days, all of which make a more enjoyable ride.

For those considering it, I'd highly recommend you do it.  But, it's most-certainly a two-person job.

Mike,

Thanks for the follow up.  Always nice to hear a project went well.  Do you have any before/after pics? First off, we love our bus porn and secondly it helps us when we attempt new projects if we have already seen the outcome.

Thanks,

Frank
