Another idea is installing a push button neutral safety switch.

I installed one so I could start the old VH 9 in gear, this allowed the transmission to warm up faster on our - 40 mornings.

Actually one of the factory upgrades for the VH-9 caused engagement grinding unless transmission was warm.

Worked well I might leave it wired up as it is just a jumper between two terminals in the front panel.  short piece of wire and a spring loaded button.

Your just pushing two buttons to start.  Theft device also :)

The old semi I used to drive had two start buttons (Cadillac) and had to be held down until the oil pressure came up.
