Greetings from your friendly Hiway 17 Bus Driver
« on: January 16, 2013, 02:54:29 AM »
Having grown up right along the Hiway 17 corridor in San Jose, CA that this fellow's talking about, I find his commentary hysterically accurate!

Careful, salty language included, may not be suitable for adults!   :o

Enjoy!

I, too grew up on that stretch of freeway.  Don't know what's worse, Hwy 17, or 101 through San Luis Obispo:  short on/off ramps close together, 2 exits sharing one offramp.  All populated by people who don't have a clue how to merge.

Point of clarification -

I did NOT write this piece!

I found it while looking for something else on CraigsList.  I thought my fellow busnuts would find it entertaining, foul language and all.  Especially those of us who at some point in time earned our living driving a big rig professionally.

I haven't lived in SJ since 1970, but grew up driving this stretch of freeway frequently as my parents lived nearby.  It was a PITA back then, and it still is today.

FWIW & HTH. . .

I loved it.  I used to tow 60' modular homes.  After being run off the road while trying to merge,  I discovered the only way to do it.  Time my merge, turn on blinkers,  wait for three blinks and merge.

RJ, where are you living now?

Frankie and I are coming out to the left coast the end of the month. Will stop in Vegas and Yuma first.

Muldoon -

Unfortunately, VTA (San Jose's transit system) doesn't buy high HP equipment - gotta keep the bean counters and environmental wackos happy with gutless wonders purchased with taxpayer subsidies.

Joe -

Still in temporarily in Fresno, as I have been since 1972. . .  :'(

PM me for contact phone, & say hi to Frankie!
