We just bought or first bus conversion, a 1966 pd4107 gm. It seems to be an older conversion, so we are making changes to make it more updated and more us.
 I've been lurking and reading. Lots of good info on here.
Anyway just wanted to say hey and hope meet some you in our travels.

Hi Scott -

Welcome - if you'd like, you can share your bus' serial number (PD4107-XXXX) here - and GM historian RJ will be able to get you original delivery information right down to the month, usually (unless you already have it).

For GM owners, we always post contact information for Luke at US Coach, Berlin, NJ - 1-888-262-2434, good number to keep handy.  Reasonable prices and quick shipping on sometimes hard-to-find parts.

Welcome Scott.  Greatest place around to learn about your bus, meet like-minded folk, and have a good time in the process. Posting what area in the country you are located in (in your forum profile) will afford you the chance to see whether there are bus enthusiasts located close by you.  Another benefit! 

Also you can find out about bus rallies in your neck of the woods - great way to see a lot of buses & meet others.

And welcome to the fun of " doing it your way".

You may want to run some topics through the search function up on the bar above.

Many questions already answered, but many times a fresh question and response are the way to go.

Your way ahead of the curve in taking an already converted coach and slowly changing it to fit your needs/tastes.

hey folks, thanks for the welcome. the vin# is pd4107354, 354 being the build number i think.

yes I'll have questions as we go along. I'll try and get pics as we go along, I'll have to get someone to teach me how that works. You know the saying about teaching an old dog new tricks. :)

Yup, welcome to the nut house!  The more you get into your coach, the more you'll realize how crazy we are!

Now, you can truthfully tell folk that you own a "jen-u-wine retired Greyhound," because you do!  PD4107-354 was part of a 100-bus order for Southern Greyhound Lines (HQ'd in Chicago, IL) delivered new between May and July of 1966.  That production run started with unit #325, so I'm guessing that yours came off the line near the end of May or the first part of June.

Normally with these delivery histories I can also give you the original fleet number, but in this case, it's a real hodgepodge!  That's because SGL did not number this order sequentially, like they normally do.  The order was delivered with number series originally :  5100 > 5137; 5075 > 5096;  5047 > 5051 and 5000 > 5034.

To further confuse the issue, 5112 > 5114 were renumbered as 5097 > 5099, and 5115 > 5137 were renumbered as 5052 > 5074, all of these changes taking place after delivery.

Thus, you're going to have to do some poking around the coach itself to see if you can determine it's original fleet number.  Check inside every one of the exterior compartments, especially on the inside of the doors.  Somewhere you might get lucky!

As a final note, back in those days Greyhound had a preventative maintenance program that was the envy of the transportation industry (not true today, at all!)  In addition, GL would keep their coaches until after the summer peak season's Labor Day holiday before selling them off at the 10 or 11 year point to a second-tier operator.  So until 1976 or thereabouts, your coach pounded the pavement for the Blue Pooch.

hey rj, thanks for the info on our bus. it's neat knowing where she started her life. I figured it was an old greyhound, it still has the dog on the front and still painted the greyhound colors. I'll look for more numbers where you suggested.

The wife retires in may, that's when we hope to see the USA in our Chevrolet. lots of short trips and work between now and then, we'll get there.
