Pals of Palmetto‏ (Palmetto Cove April 12th to 14th)
« on: February 16, 2013, 04:22:14 PM »
April seems like a good time to get out & see friends that we haven't seen over the winter.
This is not a rally, more like a gathering. No rally fee, just the campground fee.

We can discuss shared meal options as the time gets closer.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

Looking forward to seeing as many there as possible!  ;D

Hey Kyle, how are things?  We won't be down this year but soon we will be back...  I have to get the bus ready to pass an actual annual inspection (everything has to actually work to DOT spec's), so I can re-register in Nova Scotia, but I am really getting itchy to be back on the road!

Hey Brian,
Things are going well. Keep us in mind the next time you are in the area.
I'm sure you will be able to pass the inspection with only minimal exertion of superhuman effort.  ;D

This is close to us, and it sounds like a great time to meet some folks from this forum. The Gillig will be rough at that point, but I know it will be livable because we're taking it to PA the last weekend in March.

Just looking at the PC web site. They have a disclaimer about only accommodating "self contained campers." What does that mean?

That means if you have a 5 gallon bucket instead of a real dumper, do not tell them when you check in.
Seriously it is because they do not have bath and toilet facilities for the campers.
They also did not have any cell phone or tv reception which is great for me but the Mrs. did not like it.
It is a beautiful place!

Hey Charles, thanks for the clarification. Self contained toilet and bath — duh! I'm deep into the conversion right now, and — as usual — brain wave deprived. I was thinking they might not accept anything other than a 100% conversion. But I guess that rule might eliminate most of us.

At this point, Bev and I are planning to attend.

My theory on self contained (Which I am sure doesn't correlate to any one else's or meet the campground standard).

Fresh Water:  A couple of 5 gallon jugs and some 1 liter bottles for convenience
Cooking:  A one eye burner or any type of camping stove.
Washing:  A sponge or washcloth and a bucket.
Sleeping: A sleeping bag, heck even a blanket and a pillow if you are tough enough.
Body Waste:  Any camping port-o-potty.
Entertainment:  :)  I will leave you to fill that one in.

This is how we pulled off our first visit to The Cove. Looks pretty self contained to me...

Wow, I did not know a stove burner was part of the deal. I do have a coffee maker so I guess that counts.
Another way of looking at it, maybe self contained means it is all inside the bus, whatever "IT" is. Anyway they never have checked mine.

I'm so glad that I asked. I see that others know the meaning of "getting by in the meanwhile." John, I love your self containment photos. We took our first bus to a three day Bluegrass festival one week after we got it. I had a gravity shower rigged in the step well. Three kids at home then. It was a great trip.

I look forward to meeting those who attend Palmetto Cove. I promise that we'll be "self contained."

Is it okay to bring a banjo and guitar to such events?

Actually, that is encouraged. There is usually a few that like to play there & many more that like to hear those that do play!  ;D

RE: the self contained issue,
The state has limited their operating permit to self contained only since The Cove doesn't have bathroom facilities. If the state determines they are allowing non self contained units to camp there, there may be fines & a revocation of their operating permit.

So it is the state's definition of self contained that applies here.
Your rig must have cooking, sleeping, bathing, & toilet facilities to be self contained according to the state.

The Cove does not inspect coaches to ensure compliance, they just expect people to answer the question appropriately.  ;)
If there is a question of interpretation, it would be best to play it quietly.
