Crazy idea with camera

Couple days ago I was in the ...... (well, doesn't really matter where I was) and had this vision: if you put a small video camera at the highest point of the bus pointing forward (somewhere at midships), and something like a cross-hairs set at the front you could be able to see in a monitor if you are going to hit something. In order for this to work the bus will have to be level front-to-rear and camera and gun-sight on a line parallel to the road (easy: put a bubble level visible from the throne). Jose.

Jose, not a bad idea at all, there is a problem on old roads with low bridges, how do you back up, or turn around? Lvmci...

I'm thinking backing up or turning around is preferable to having a convertible?

A coach driver who is comfortable backing up has nothing to fear going forward.

A coach driver who fears backing up has everything to fear going forward.

Get good at reversing, however it is that you can.

There is peace and tranquility for the busnut who can drive as ably in reverse as in forward.

That's my meaning, and more to the point, observation as the road seems to close down towards you approaching the choke point. How far back was that driveway, or parkinglot, where was that break in the trees or rocks, even stopping at the rise just before the lower than grade underpass in an old area, and walking down to see a sign of some sort , if necessary, if weather & time permits, or even stopping to look on line or on maps, I too have been known to take an unknown road that looks like a pleasant road, having a forward higher look is a good idea, lvmci...

Backing, now that is a subject.  The city the required the most backing for me was New Orleans when I was a 18 wheel type, New Orleans seem to have many low over passes if you miss a turn. Backing has not been one of my issues,

How about one of those laser light beam thingies, self leveling and able to turn off when not needed. One pointed to the front and one for the rear. Possibly in conjunction with a camera or some type of radar unit with audible warning.

The camera is a good concept but the physics would make it impractical in the real world. It would work fine as long as the bus and road were level; but, as soon as either one changes, the camera picture would be inaccurate. There are mechanisms and software that would adjust in real time for un-level ground and angle of incidence (similar to targeting systems used on tanks) but it would be really pricey.
