Fuel water separator filter
«

I have a Racor 1000FG fuel filter separator that came with my bus. It was bypassed when I got the bus so I suspect that I will need to buy some parts and go through it before I put it back in service. I checked the archives to see what everyone is using for a separator but no luck. I checked some heavy truck forums and it seems Evryone like the Davco 382 series.
Any suggestions? Do I rebuild what I have , buy a Davco or just leave it bypassed?

Ok, rebuild it, replace it or remove it? I just figured if there were any experience with these it would be here, I should have been more descriptive

Those are popular in the marine world Wayne the filters are a little pricey (35 bucks) are you sure it not a 1000fh I never heard of the 1000g the water sensor for 1000fh I paid 50 bucks good filters and are not cheap parts are easy to get at marine dealers I would rebuild and keep it

It's definitely a 1000FG on the tag. I am assuming the reason it got bypassed is because it had an issue but if you think it's worth having I'm going to track the parts down and go through it. Thanks for the help

I've had the 382 on many bus engines and swear by them. Lately you can get them NEW surplus from Hagerman Truck parts for around 100.00 which includes a new element in it also. Elements are around 10.00.

If the Racor is bypassed did they put in a different filter somewhere? Is the other filter doing the job?

The Racor is an excellent filter. I have had them on my diesel boats for many thousands of hours. The 1000 series will flow 180 gallons of fuel an hour so even if it gets a little dirty, you won't draw much vacuum.
Filter elements are $12 - $13 dollars each and a case of 6 can be had for $56.00.
I have never had one fail in over 22 years of use but I did rescue and rebuild a pair of 1000 marine versions to use as a fuel polishing system. They are real easy to rebuild.
I always removed the water sending unit as they are not really needed if you do a visual inspection every once and a while.
