Another spotted Eagle
« on: March 27, 2013, 02:09:37 PM »
No pic this time, sorry. Pulled in late to Enchanted trails RV park west of Albuquerque. There was an Eagle there. I have no idea what model, or anything. However, it was straight white (maybe a tad off white), some of the windows were skinned over, two roof airs, and two rear windows (at least that is what it looked like).

Anybody know who? We left to early for a pic. Too dark.

Matt, we are hammered down and headed home. 900 miles today, should be home by evening. Kansas city area.

A strong 75mph, and not much is stopping us.

Cheers,

John

Matt, we boot scoot. Ask Wayne (rusty). We passed a convoy of Eagles as they were heading east on 70.

Only one truck has passed us so far today, but he was drifting on a hill. Otherwise look out ;D. I know, we could probably save some fuel, but not when you have a great power train.

At least they are getting moisture up there. Down here it is beyond dry. Feel bad for the good folks down here.

Matt,

That was probably a year or two ago. If I remember correctly we were close to the Colorado boarder, but it was kinda a blur ;D There were at least four of them, I think, maybe five. Wayne was in the rear rust proofing his bus with all the other bus sweat. LOL

It was just inside of Kansas. I was in the rear and I seen this bus coming and it was not growing any grass under it feet. It went around us like we were standing still. I was hoping we could get in behind and draft and save some fuel, but between the four of us we could not catch John.

LOL, Wayne. That was fun. We had to get home, but it would have been really great to join in the line. Speaking of drafting, when we were coming out of Joshua Tree Park a few weeks ago, we had a bicycler drafting behind us. He apparently decided it was worth the diesel fumes to go 50-55mph behind us. Why aren't you going to that big bus meetup in Arkansas?

It would be interesting if we see Jim. Won't be on I70 too long this trip.

that is funny. We will be leaving on Sunday afternoon for Blytheville. We will be in no hurry. We will be going through KC. We have been that way enough that we have our favorite stops to eat at and one is in St. Louis. ( can't get enough of that BBQ ).

John, you passed us one way or another.  We got off the road a bit early, and parked at Walmart in Junction City.  Did not want to face the traffic in Kansas City while tired and needed to stock up on a few things.

Maybe another time.

Wayne, you should stop at Jackstack. This one is on 435 south, but it will be the easiest to get into. 9520 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. There is like a Lowes that you can park at, and it is a very short walk to Jackstack. That place is great.

Jim, we actually joined up with 70 at Topeka. I40 west all the way to I35 north. Came very close. I don't know how much you all have been through KC, but here is what I do all the time. I70 to 670. 670 goes straight through downtown. Usually I wouldn't suggest straight through, but in this case staying on 70 isn't any easier. It does a strange loop north, and back south. Stay on 670, and after you pass through the KC bottoms (you will see big white Kemper arena on your right) stay in the second lane from the left (if I remember correctly, driven it a LOT of times, but trying to remember which lane, lol). Bottom line is, there is one lane that carries you through the heart of downtown. Two will split off to I35, but stay in the one that goes straight under Bartel hall.

The other option is I435 south. A little farther out of your way, but a fairly relaxing ride. Just make sure that when you get to the eastern side of KC you watch the signs. The Grandview triangle can get a little snarly, but not bad.

I personally haven't been there, but Arthur Bryants is another place that a lot of people love. 1702 Village West Parkway Kansas City, KS 66111. This place probably has the best bus parking, and closest to I70.

Cheers,

John
