Allison MD3060P Specs

    I'm looking at an Allison MD-3060P transmission available locally.  What does the "P" suffix designate?  Does the "P" transmission have any differerent length or width specs (compared to an MD-3060 transmission)?

"P" is for power take off, same size as a MD 3060 as the power take off runs off the converter

    Thanks, Clifford.  Is the power take off on these transmissions useful for running a "house battery" alternator?   And the power-take-off-definition is probably about right since the transmission is out of a fire truck and I'm guessing that that PTO was originally used for water pumps.  I found a few points of data and was amazed at the compactness of the 3060 in comparison to the MT643; although the 3060 had much higher capacity power specs, it's actually a bit smaller in external dimensions than the MT transmissions (product line versus product line).

Non PTO 3000 series is 28.29" long and weighs 535lbs.
PTO version is 32.49" long and weighs 575lbs. Horsepower rating is up to 370hp and 1100lb/ft torque on the transmission.
The PTO is rated at 485ft/lbs using one PTO and just over 600lb/ft for both. Usually the PTO off the transmission is called a "Hot Shift" meaning the PTO is connected all the time and disconnects with a clutch pack-very expensive. I believe you can get a continuously running PTO for fairly cheap and yes that would be suitable to run a house alternator. Just remember that the PTO is either on the top or the bottom and also subjected to much more road water and dirt then if it were mounted on the engine. They do make sealed fan cooled alternators that would work well. Check out the Delco SI-40 series. Good Luck, TomC

The ones I saw the PTO is left side or right side never saw one on the bottom before

     Thanks, Tom, I'd rather not have that extra length (but I found one website that quoted an MT643 at 30"+) but I can live with it for the convenience of having the extra drive.  I'm still trying to get all the info on the unit that's available here.  I appreciate all the info!

 I believe all models of the 3060 takes a #2 bellhousing also but if it is a generation 1 or 2 I would pass 

If it has the shift tower instead of the touch pad I would be interested in buying the tower
