Time For a New Turbo?
«
Reply #2 on:

I removed the turbo today as well as the exhaust pipes from the manifolds to the turbo. The flanges on both exhaust pipes were bad so I had some exhaust leaks. The pipes generally seem solid so I might order some flanges and repair them for now.
The Turbo is an Airesearch 5103760. There is another number that looks like L00639 if I am reading it right. These numbers came from the tag and I didn't see anything else. The turbo does have some shaft play that I can feel if I move the shaft up and down. I can probably move the end of the shaft 1/64th of an inch up and down. If I spin the turbo it will stop within a couple of revolutions. Does this sound normal or is it time for a new turbo?

Clifford, do you have a check mark in the little box at the bottom of the page where you write the reply? If so it will send a copy of it back to you when you send it to the other person.

Dan,I would call Tom and replace the turbo he will have one in stock also there is a guy here on the board Zero Clearance is in the turbo business might give him a shot
Look on the inside of the mounting flange there should be a A/R number stamped there tell us what it is like A/R 1.27 and so on
A lot of different power ,torque ranges and smoke control can be done with changing the A/R numbers on a 6v92 no need to be married to one turbo and the 2 fore mention can fix you up
ED everything I try it never leaves my box or returns to my box so I don't even try anymore,I can go into their profile and send a PM and it works

Found it! AR 1.39 . I will talk to Tom tomorrow, get his advice and get one headed this way. Maybe I can get the pillow block bearings replaced before it gets here and I should be all set for the first test drive since I started the conversion. Anyone else have noisy bearings in their Eagle pillow block?

Hate to horn in here, but this thread reminded me that I think Tom still has my Turbo. Been so long that it is probably lost.
Clifford, not sure if the work was done in my name or your name. Would you mind checking on it?
Thanks
Jim

Clifford, yes it was a wastegate.
You had Tom set it up for my engine: SN 06R0521890 Model 6067BK60. I think I was going to pick it up at Quartzsite in 2010, but you did not make it down. Our schedules never seemed to coincide.

If I recall, my turbo had a AR .94 housing from a 6V-92 and it did real good on the 8V-92 for sure.

Clifford, you are right...Tom is good to work with. He spent about 30-40 minutes on the phone with me answering questions and helping diagnose the problem. My new turbo has been ordered.
