Awning Recommendations??
« on: June 23, 2013, 09:35:31 AM »
Hi all,

I would like to add awnings to my MC-5a.  Any thoughts on manufacturer(s) and instillation?

Thanks

Mike

Zip/Dee would be my choice with the 1 inch square arms I think the wide arms on Carfree and others just look out of place on a bus JMO guys don't panic

The cost will be your determining factor you can bet on that Zip/Dee's are not cheap, then you could look at the armless type they are all over the place in price up to 5 or so grand

Hi FolkBus,
Yes, Vip/Dee are great.
Get the model with the bent arms to hug the roof line.
Also get the option that lets you raise up the arms so you don't hit your head.

ZipDee is what we had on our 4104.

Just ordered new 16 foot fabric to replace our old A &E elite 9000 awning cloth and 3 window awning from these guys. Whole package with window hardware was 1,400 and you can order all on line. Shipping was free.

Had 3 Zip Dee window awnings and one A&E patio awning on our 5A. Hated putting up and down the A&E, especially when the wind came up, so i got rid of it and realized that there used to be a Zip Dee window awning there at one time. Took a while but i found the hardware in a wrecking yard and am going to put it on when i can afford new fabric for all four awnings.
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

Personally I don't care for the arms on most awnings also don't care for having to put them up. On our class A we have to try and always put it up if we are not going to be around or if we are going to bed. We forgot it out once and the wind did some serious damage to the arms. On our bus, we have the CareFree Mirage without the arms. It looks really good and we just push a button and forget about it. The only problem with these are the cost. (Money well spent though)
