Bought a 4104 for parts
« on: July 04, 2013, 08:56:50 PM »
I just bought a 1960 4104 for parts for my 1956.  Barely made the 70 miles back home.  The PO told me the clutch was going.  He wasn't lying.  Shifted without the clutch and "timed" as many traffic lights as possible to make on green.  Most of the drive was on I-69 and I-94, so not much stop and go.  The clutch was both slipping and would not release.  Adjustment of the linkage helped a little, but we did make it home.
RJ, do you have the info on this bus?  It's VIN is PD4104-4963
Also, I can't remember who  is tracking 04's, but wanted to provide info for that as well.
I bought it mainly for the doors, bumpers, window frames and rear window glass, as my bus must have had a blind driver.  Almost every body panel has some damage.  If you're looking for '04 parts let me know.

I'm sure RJ will chime in on the delivery date info.  But, 4963 must be one of the last ones made.

Gordie,

What area did you pick this 04 at?  I am on the road tonite and dont have my list with me. Hopefully RJ will post something. Thanks for the VIN, I will add her to the scrapped bus list.

Gordie -

JLV gave you 99.9% of the original delivery details, only thing he left out was that it was delivered in July of 1960.

5065 - 4963 = 102 from the end of 4104 production.

Save all the OEM exterior lights, signals, etc.  Somebody will need them someday.  And if the bay doors are all good, save those too!

When the time comes to cut it up for the scrapper, salvage the rear axle and powertrain.

Mine too.  That's the same route I used when bringing my MC5 home.

Siberyd - Bought it in Eaton Rapids.  I haven't inventoried everything yet, but I believe front clearance lights are original.  Don't know about the lens, on my '56 they are domed, on the '60 they are more bullet shaped.  Casting looks good.  I'll check on the rest of the parts you mentioned.  I know the headlight rims are in pretty bad shape.

RJ - I'll be using most of the bay doors, as most of mine have been messed up in one way or another.  I'll be saving all the exterior lights, castings and trim pieces including fender liners and good body moldings, and window frames.
Funny, my '56 was originally a Florida bus also.  Red Adams Tours in Miami.

Gordie,

Thanks for that info.

The 4104 owner I am working with has a bus with square headlights and he wants to put it back to round. He needs the complete front clearance light assembly.

He has a 57 & a 60 so I am not sure which needs what.

Glad to hear you got the bus and it made it home.   Wasn't sure after your last email.   Still want the window?

Going over to the storage barn tomorrow and will pull all the parts listed on this thread.  My left rear marker is good, so if the parts bus is good, it's available.  Gordie
