I still poke around here
« on: July 23, 2013, 11:05:36 AM »
I still poke around here every now and again.  We still take the bus out every great once in a while.  Memorial day was the last time.  We went up to the lake and hammered on some white bass.  We just got real busy and in our spare time we have been tinkerin with the new toy.  Check out the video.

The great thing is I don't need a toad!  I can unhook it from the trailer, go in reverse and hit the breaks.  It will slide right off the trailer.  Too bad I can launch at the state park that way :)

If they made one of those that was quiet I'd be all over it.  Unfortunately the prop noise is like fingernails on a chalk board to me.

Hey Walt with that properly strapped down on a trailer behind the bus you'll be able to "fly" up steep passes in the bus with no worries! ;)

Note- the seven blade counter rotating propeller.  Half the noise of a regular prop.  Loud yes!  Not near what they used to be.

i don't know if it would fly up it but I know it could push the bus.  When loading at the ramp, instead of getting out to hook it to the trailer, you just hit the throttle and push the truck and trailer out.  That way you don't have to hook it up an it won't fall off.

My bus gets 8 mpg. The airboat gets 2 mpg.  That is good so far as airboats.  You were close, it is a 496 Levitator at 450 hp.

Hey Wal, Air Boat Looks like a Blast and a Half!!! ;D

Scanning through your pics, I like the look of your WVO settling set-up. No issues with running your two-tank system as of yet, I trust (hope! :)). I am still collecting WVO. I've probably got over 600 gallons, 110 of which I've put through a "cold up-flow" settling/de-watering filtration rig - made from a couple of 55 gallon plastic drums. (I keep waiting for the day I walk into my shop and into an ankle-deep sea of WVO! Haaa! Well, it's bound to happen one day, I suppose. I hear Purple Power cleaner is good for "mopping up" spills).

Got my aluminum WVO tank for the bus... still need heat exchangers, valves and so on to get my 4104 burning some of this WVO. I picked your brain once before... hope you don't mind my asking for more advice as I begin to collect the rest of the necessary bits and pieces for WVO conversion.

Enjoy your new toy. You sure have a LOT of fun hobbies! Good to hear from you,
Kevin

Hello Kevin.  Yes I developed a problem with wvo nearly immediately.  The old fuel line went to pieces within 2000 miles.  I replaced it with viton fuel lines.  I have had no issues beyong that.  Keepin my fingers crossed.

I just got tired of the Wvo scene and I am taking a brake.  I spent 7 years and countless hours and I had a grass fire passion for it.  I just got real busy and really tired.  Between rent houses, full time job, dog training, hunting and fishing
I just ran out of steam.  If you need help just ask, I certainly don't mind helping you along. Someday I'll get back into it like I was.
