Just drove on 54 a couple of weeks ago and there was some construction but it moved right along and the road from Tucumcari to Wichita was the better part of the road.

Sorry about the slight drift

Clifford, if you found my turbo, would you mind bringing it to the rally.  I will not be able to make it (teaching in Las Vegas), but John will be there and I can get it from him.

Let me know what I need to pay.

Hope everyone has a great rally.

Clifford, we have done 54 before. My preference is going all the way to OKC. It is only 20mins longer according to Google Maps, but I think it actually saves more like an hour. We can hammer down and really roll on the interstate. We can't roll quite as quick on 54. Then again, you are retired and can probably roll a little slower than us ;D

What are you driving?

Thanks Clifford

I think we took US 50 to the last KS Eagle rally.  Pretty good road, but kind of sad to see all the small towns that are close to becoming ghost towns.  I will look for more details when I get back later tonight.  If nothing else, might be a good route back to AZ.

I did check and we took US 50 from Pueblo to the rally in Afton.  Fun drive.  Have done it a couple of times in the last few years.

However, I looked at US 54 and it sure is a direct route from I 40 to US 50 and into Afton.

Clifford

Be careful in Texas if you do take Route 54

Here is a picture of me when we were in Texas just two weeks ago

The route you purpose is good, especially if you are not in a hurry. However, the most direct fastest route would be to take I-40 to OKC then take I-35 north to Wichita. From OK and lived in western OK all my life, traveled all the roads you and Jim mention. 54 would be better than 50 but both are definitely slower than I-40 and I-35. Scenery is about the same all ways, just slower pace on 54 and 50. 50 is heavily traveled by truckers, so if you get behind someone, you don't have many options till they need an old man break or hunger calls.

I was going to show up with my MCI8 but with all the rusting going on at a Eagles rally I don't want my MCI learning bad habits !!!  ;D ;D ;D Just kidding just thought I would get everyones attention. Matter a fact it would probably be the other way around.

Clifford,

Having driven the route 54 2 weeks ago, I don't understand why anyone would drive the extra 115 plus miles to do the interstate.

I have reached the age where I'd rather look at the country instead of the slab and traffic.

I didn't have any problem passing trucks. I had a little staying out of their way. Might have been different in the Eagle. I was in a pickup.
