Conversion nearly complete, weighed the MCI.

With our conversion needing just some finish work to complete it, we weighed the coach again. 50 gallons of water on board. A little over a quarter tank of fuel and me sitting in it (185 lbs) and here are our numbers:

nice weight!  my 102c3 is 12144 lb front    22726 lb  rear  total 34870 lbs now this is loaded on a trip with my wife , all of her stuff ,  our dog , full tank of fuel 198 gal. ,  1 /4 tank of water ( 25 gal ) aprox  , about 30 gal. of grey , black tank . toad is an extra 3784 lbs . I wish it was less but you have to drive in stile .     dave

Dave, that weight isn't bad. Our MCI's with the tag are cool up to 40k. Light is good.

Where did you get it weighed? Did you do it at a truck stop?

Weighed at a digital scale on the campus of a nearby college that has a large dairy operation as well as grain farms.

What size tires are you running? With only 10,220lbs up front, the typical 12R-22.5 can be run at 75psi (10,440lbs at that pressure).
Try going back to the scale and weight the tag and drive axle separately. Then you can further tailer your tire pressure to get the optimum ride quality. Good Luck, TomC

Tomc, you're right. I should. At the moment I'm running 105 psi all the way around. And it does ride a bit crisp.

Mine are at 95 lbs air pressure with these large tires will it help to have higher air pressure to get better mileage or is it better to have a softer ride ? higher air pressure on a pick up truck helps on mileage .                         dave

THEE only correct answer is to run the pressure suggested by the tire manufacturer for the weight on that axle. Obviously you don't want to run lower-that is the number one reason for tire failure. You don't want to run higher pressure (although yes it would give a bit better fuel mileage) since it will make for a harder ride, and more importantly, the tire will not be seated on the pavement properly-making for less traction.

Please-no guessing here-everyone get your buses weighed when full then consult the load tables for your exact tire and run that tire pressure. Good Luck, TomC

Why didn't you weigh each corner while you were at it?  Total weights are OK, and front and rear end weights are kinda OK, but you really need to find out what your bus weights....on each corner.  For all you know, you may be seriously or dangerously side overloaded.   You need to know your empty weight very closely.

Only then will you know what you have and how things may quickly change when passengers and or cargo are aboard...or how good you really did your conversion.  Not trying to be picky here...just helpful.  You need to know your EXACT weights dry and very close approximate weights live.  Responsibility.  HB of CJ (old coot)
