Good afternoon does any one know the aftermarket part number for Maxi Pot rear drive axle on 1981 MC9 8v71N w/ auto transmission

I've never heard of a Maxi Pot rear drive axle on 1981 MC9 8v71N w/ auto transmission, what is it?

I'm guessing that he's asking about a DD3 brake pot for his MC-9.

Yes thats what im asking is it called a DD3 brake pot ?

Sure is, the infamous (or famous) DD-3.  There isn't really an aftermarket alternative, you can get rebuild kits from a number of places including Luke at US Coach in New Jersey.  REI in Chicago has rebuilt units available and has new aftermarket units as well last time I checked, still just called the DD-3.  Looking at around $550 each for their new units, a little less for their rebuilts.  Nothing else fits without a fair bit of fabrication.

   IF you can do your own repairs, wish to rebuild them yourself, and have a parts manual for your coach, you can get the parts here for rebuilding.
Parts to rebuild two cost about 200 to 220 bucks if you have good cases. They don't have a kit; you order the individual pieces after you take them apart, clean/inspect. Mainly diaphragms, seals, and new rollers. Your chambers have 3 hoses connected to them?    You can get the rebuild manual info free online at the Bendix site. They aren't difficult to rebuild.

I going to try a set of Wedge parking brakes on a MCI one of these days,I have converted a 4905 to springs they are not that hard to do

The next time I take my rear wheels off I am going to take photo's and take detailed measurements so we can tell if a particular brake can will fit in there or not.  As I recall it's the distance from the can mount to the air spring that is the problem.

   That is what I found on my 4905; not enough room.
The 4104 is the only GM that has the required room. Later models lost space when redesigned. About 5 years ago I researched all the available brands of Maxi-brake or equiv. and all were 1 inch or more too long without body or mount modifications, which I didn't feel like fooling with since rebuilding parts were still avail and didn't want to change plumbing at additional cost. I do not know whether the same issues exist on MCI,s and Eagles. Since they are now rebuilt, I don't expect to have to fool with them again. Now on to other items to replace/repair/rebuild.

The 4905 I changed the chamber were not mounted to the rear axle I just welded new brackets and move the rods to the outside it was a fairly easy change but both of his DD3 were not repairable to much rust
 Eagles are easy if they are mounted on back of the axle you need to unlock and rotate the chamber the one one the drivers side for clearance not a big deal front mounted chambers on the axle requires nothing to fit

   Yes, you need to closely inspect housings for salt/ corrosion damage.
