740 Trans. ?
« on: October 28, 2013, 06:02:45 AM »
How can you find out if your trans. is set up for a 8-71 or 8-92. I know there is something inside they change to fit the motor.

Thanks Richard

Also, Will a 6-92 flex plate fit a 8-71?

Get the number off the torque converter that is the only difference take it easy on the 8v71 converter it will work Joe has been running a 8v71 torque converter behind his 8v92 for years without a problem a 92 series torque converter is no problem behind a 8v71 they don't have enough power to stall a 92 series torque converter

Yes the flex plate is the same for both engines but the center hub is different with a 71 hub the plate will work

good luck

Richard,
I don't know what you are looking for but I use a 6V92 torque converter behind one of my high hp 8V71 TA's  it has great low end power. As Clifford said the hub is different between the 71 and the 92 engine the 71 will use  an 8 bolt hub and the 92 uses a 12 bolt hub.
