PD3751 Fuel tank measurements needed!
« on: December 04, 2013, 10:09:38 AM »
I'm wanting to install fuel gauge/dual fuel gauges in my PD3751.
Anyone have the tank measurements?
I'm having a gauge cluster made and can't go forward till I can supply the measurements of the tanks.

Many Thanks

Janice, why do you want two fuel guages?  If you leave the crossover line open the two tanks will equalize and you can put one sender in the rear tank, which is the lower of the two tanks.  The best location and way to install a sender is to use the tube type and cut a 2" hole in the top of the rear tank with a hole saw.  Grease it up good so the shavings don't drop into the tank.  You can access the location (hopefully) under and just forward of where the rear cross seat was.  After you get the hole cut, take a tape and measure the depth of the tank, you will need that for ordering the right sender. A good place to get the sender and guage is ISS in Portland.  You would have to run the wire forward under the belly of the bus.  A better way is to mount the guage in the rear cabin of the bus, then it's a short wire run.  JMW

I lucked out with my '77 transit bus-in that there were two 5 hole round access plates already in the top of the tank-course with your older bus-probably not. Isspro has non mechanical sending units in most any depth you need. The sending unit has a megnetic float that the unit picks up without any of the mechanical toilet type senser. Mine works well-take a look at Isspro. Good Luck, TomC

Thanks guys, all good info and so much appreciated.
I'll have to rip out the bed platform in the rear of the bus to get to the tanks, so looks like I'll probably now wait till spring to do that.  Arghhh.  Not missing my trip to Florida over a fuel gauge ;)
In the meantime, Ill have the gauge cluster made and will at least have the fuel oil gauge ready for hookup.  Just keep using the ol rubber hose & MPG Calculator till then.
