Hi All, just brought the Italian Greyhound back from ww williams, I too have had a clicking sound, which increases with speed, with my rear wheels. I had an 18 wheelers rear wheels explode in front of me, a full carcass came flying at the bus, tumbled under the bus, causing great damage to the jeep toad. I have been suspicious that this ticking may be damage from this incident. Anyway, Ive become concerned enough to bring it to ww williams, here in LV. Mind you I havent noticed anything different driving the bus, maybe slightly out of alignment. Well the great old mechanic, Chuck the 2 cycle guy has retired, but there is a great young guy named Esty who has become the old bus mechanic, includimg 2 cycle 8V71s. He walked along side, pinpointing the clicking to the rear axle, pulled the wheels, it has fluid bearings lube not grease, emptyed  the rear end (it had been a while), it had grit  but no chunks, indicating the bearings had not broken apart, he thought there might be a broken brake spring, but all was good. He thinks I should replace the motor mounts, he replaced the rear end fluid, inspected the under carrage, but couldnt find the cause of the clicking, at great expense mind you. Any ideas? Lvmci...

Clicking? Yes, I do have an idea. Pull your wheels and inspect VERY carefully for cracks in the rims. Also, if you have wheel simulators, pull those off and try without.

We had something almost identical to you, and couldn't figure it out for about 4K miles. Turns out it was a cracked rim (steel). New rim, no problems.

The last time I had such symptoms (on a car, not a bus), it turned out to simply be a rock jammed firmly in the treads. Pried it out with a tool and it was fixed. I'm glad it wasn't a nail.

Check the easy stuff mention if that fails,then check the end play on the drive shaft going into the drop box if you have end play unfortunately the drop box will need to come off and the bearings pre-loaded again I hope you have a simple fix not the drop box

Thanks, will check what was mentioned, I have noticed that the sound does not sound muffled in anyway, like it was on the interior of something, or surrounded by fluid, you can hear the clicking in side with the door closed, loud enough to think it was coming from the front passenger wheel at first. Lvmci...

If the speedometer drives off the front wheel check that out

As mentioned above, wheel simulators can do that.  With repeated removal and replacement, the wholes become enlarged so that the simulator flops as you roll.  I had that problem and was very concerned until I found what it was.  I used some washers to tighten them up.  There are some cheap, thin electrical ones that are the perfect size.

Check your lug nuts too. One or two being just a little loose will make a clicking sound.

Thanks guys, I will remove the simulators and drive it, check the front wheels for speedo cable, the kid removed the wheels to look at the brake drums, the cracked wheel is also a thought, thanks John, lvmci...

If it is the wheel simulators, you will probably be able to move them with your hands while they are still on the wheels.  I could shake rather easily.

Hi Guys, took off the rear simulator and voila, the noise moved to the front! Heres what I think happened, indeed the noise was mostly coming from the simulator, thanks so much guys, I took it of, my friend walked along side and he said a much quiter clicking was coming from the front, which is where I first heard it. Im gonna remove the front simulator tommorrow. My friend even offered to drive the bus, so that I could listen, he never wanted to drive the bus before! I gonna try the washer idea, have you guys tried hard rubber washers, or just steel? $900 for pulling off the hubcaps, Im happy tho, with the inspection of the rear end, lesson learned, lvmci...

I just used the washers that are used for narrowing holes in a breaker box.  I only used them on half the lugs too.  You don't even need to remove the wheel if you put the washers on one lug at a time.  They've been on about 2 years now with no problems.
