Take good care of the sjkin on your MCI
« on: December 13, 2006, 09:35:31 AM »
I just priced the two pieces of S.S. on the bagage door on a MCI. The sticker price just about knocked me down; I was expecting around $150 each as that is what it been for years. Now $450 each. Cost to fix damaged baggage door over $1000. Time to think about going smooth sides. Cost a lot less. Fred North Florida Bus Conversion

Yeah, stainless through the roof.  You should see the prices for upscale residential stainless hoods.  $$$

Absolutely much cheaper. Besides, for us wanting a "new" look, this is the cheaper way to go.
R&M has the entire 25 piece smooth side kit for 1200 plus shipping.

In fact, when I have extra "play money", I may order an extra set to stock for some unwelcomed emergencies.

Nick, do you also do copper? and if so, how much is copper sheeting?

I have a request to do a copper sink and a copper range hood, from SWWNBD.

The sink would be 2 squares, 15 X 15 X 9 with a 3/4" lip all the way around to mount under the countertop.

The hood would be 22W X 13H X 15D with a 45° radius from top front to bottom rear. with a lip around the outside for mounting.

Gee, she doesn't want too much, does she?

Dallas,

Try to get an idea what she wants to spend because, I can really go overboard with copper designs.....

Let alone the inflated prices of copper theese days.

Just about all metals have risen in price in the last year or so. Stainless, copper you name it! I just picked up my last few pieces for my project.  A good question here is why hasn't aluminum prices raised also?   Nice smooth sides that are painted look very good. I bought a roll of 3/8 "x 50 ' copper tubing for a little over a hundred dollars!

Thanks Nick,

I was probably only kidding?  :D :D
I have to build the new cabinets first to see what I actually need. I had plans on using a concrete countertop reinforced with fibreglas and a rounded pebble surface covered with 1/4" urethane. (easy to repair scratches with another coat of urethane).

I was planning on buying 23g. in 24 X 36" sections for the sink and forming it by hand, giving it a hammered, oldfashined "farm sink" look.
Joints will be soldered and I'll use a piece of stainless underneath it for strength.

For the range hood and trim I was thinking of using 24g. Which it plenty heavy for that application, but quite a bit cheaper.
The joints will be soldered and riveted with copper rivets as an accent.

Here is one link to copper sheets that still has a pretty good price:
