wireless internet suggestions...
« on: January 05, 2007, 04:46:08 PM »
I have a laptop with an internal wireless modem.  I can pick up the free WiFi service from a local merchant, but sometimes, if the weather is not right, I can't get a very good signal.  Do any of you know of a way to boost my reception?

Jimmy, I would look at getting one of the wireless PCMCIA Cards that has an antenna connector on it and adding a 5-10dB antenna.  Also just a general note, not all "Open" access points are supposed to be "Open"  But if the business advertises "free internet" Go For It!

Heres a good candidate from a Buffalo super wireless card and antenna:

Thanks Jim.

I live near a coffee shop that is a hotspot.  I buy from them often, so I don't feel like I'm "stealing" from them.  Just picking up their signal at home.  There are a ton of other access points all round, but you need a password for them.

I suppose Best Buy would have one?
