Possible Easy AC for the quick install.
« on: April 24, 2006, 08:35:49 PM »
Saw this today at The Home Dumbo;

http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0357086978.1145935455@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfhaddhilkdmfmcgelceffdfgidgim.0&CNTTYPE=PROD_META&CNTKEY=misc/searchResults.jsp&MID=9876&N=2984+4370&pos=n08

Thought it was interesting, you can run the exhaust hose out the window or put a hole somewhere and run a hole out,  has 3 speeds with a remote,  claims 10 amp draw on box and needs 15 amp circuit.  Thought it could be used for the quick conversion.  Anybody  have any experience with these?

Newbie MC9,

Good Idea, But....

#2 gota drain condensate pan  how often?? depends on humidity!
#3 have to vent condencer air outside
#4 may fall over while traveling/ floor space eater

Sorry for the neg. outlook,  just not too practical.

This has been cussed and discussed on BNO - hope the mods don't cream me for the pointers to another site...

If you want to wade through all the hoohah in these threads I think you'll find more than enough to make a decision.

I've looked at those also. You can use it in your house when not traveling in the coach. You can find bigger units than the Home Depot model on the internet. Do a Google search for "portable air conditioner". Some are 12K btu that don't need the condensate bucket emptied often. It channels moisture into the hot air blowing out of the coach. I've got some links saved on my laptop but its down for repairs. For another $70 you can buy one with heat strips, too. That will obviously eat more electricity.

As Nick said, there are better options for long-term permanent installations. But these aren't a bad option for interim use.
