4108 Entry Door - Adjustment and door gasket
« on: November 28, 2017, 06:06:06 PM »
The entry door on our 4108 has a slight gap at the lower rear corner. The closing mechanism pulls the door closed securely and latches in both the closed and open position. When closed and latched however, the door appears like it's slightly warped at the bottom.

Anyone have any tips on getting the bottom of the door to close as snugly as the top does?

I've also got a question about the door gasket. The one on the door frame looks to be original but I'm not sure that it's installed correctly. The gasket on the rear jamb has the short rolled portion on the outside and the wider flat portion on the inside. The top and front sides have it installed the other way around so the flat portion folds over as the door closes. Thoughts? Maybe the rear jamb portion of the gasket got turned around when Custom Coach had it apart to install the deadbolt?

You can spring the bottom of door to take care of this problem. Those doors aren't that rigid and can take some twisting to correct. I recently got a new door gasket from Luke. They aren't rolled over when new. Comes from use. There are two widths used. I need to order the other one yet before changing them.

Sorry for the misinformation. The new door gasket does indeed have one side that is rolled to an inverted u shape, similiar to your old one. I went out and unfolded it and sure enough it's rolled on the one side. Sorry about that.

No problem. I installed the new gasket. Seals better on the inside, but the bottom rear corner is still not pulling in all the way. I'm afraid to try and torque it too much to bend it, as it seems pretty darn solid. Was hoping for some adjustment points, but I don't think there are any.

You can adjust closing linkage if you still have it and connected to handle on top of dash. That will put more pull on door, but make releasing handle a little stiffer, depending on how much adjustment it takes to make it seal. If linkage has been removed and latch is what holds it closed like a house door, have someone hold a piece of 4x4 between door and body at latch area. Use a 2x4 on edge at bottom and try to pry door closed. You will need to experiment to get what you need. Just keep checking it. You may need something like a 6x6 instead of a 4x4, just not so heavy it can't be held there. Removing inner trim panel can help if not too inconvenient. If you feel nervous about this, check with an older body shop about doing this or have them do it.
