Ditto--sort of.  I have a paper subscription (which I will miss and understand the need for it to be cut) I've no clue how to access the new set up.  How about a tutorial for dummies like me?  Thanks Jack ???

For anyone not familiar with our Online magazine, we made it as simple as possible.  If I can figure it out, anyone can.  :-)

At the top of this page choose BCM HOME PAGE then choose the HELP tab at the top right side of our website.  Then choose How to Reset your Password and go thru those steps first because you probably do not remember the password we sent you anyway.  It will ask you to enter your email address and after you do that, it will send an email to that address.  Click on that link and set your new password to anything you would like.  The email should come within 5 minutes, but if not, then check your Spam folder.  It will come from "WordPress". If you still do not see it, call us and we will change your password for you.

Then to read the magazine, choose the HELP tab again and choose How to Login to Read the Magazine.  It will walk you thru the steps.  Once you have done it once, it becomes pretty easy.

For more information about reading the magazine in Flipbook format (like turning pages in a book) choose the HELP tab and choose How to Get the Most out of Flipbook.

I recommend you open a different browser to use the HELP button because it will allow you to read the instructions in one Browser i.e. Internet Explorer while following the steps in Google Chrome or some other combination.

If you need more help, call the office at the number above and we can walk you thru the steps.

Curious why do we have to jump through hoops just to read it. Should be able to open it up and read it. Thanks for all you do.

It does seem that for some reason the setup has a few extra layers of buttons to click on before it's possible to read the magazine. Perhaps there is a way to eliminate a couple of layers and have the current version be visible on the page shown immediately after login?

If you want us to remove the functionality of being able to read all back issues free then we can make it much easier to read the current issue as that added more steps.  Maybe that was not such a good idea after all.  How many of you do not like this option? It is taking us quite a bit of time and money to add this on there, but it would be very easy to remove.

If we make the magazine free for everyone we can do that too so you do not have to log in to read the current issue but after about three more issues I would be broke and there would be no more magazine. We spent about $4000 over the past four months to upgrade to a new server and set it up to add this additional functionality for everyone to get more for their money.  With more functionality, comes more steps.

I myself use a password saver so it takes me only 3 clicks to read the current issue.  You can also do that.  Download LastPass and it will save all of your passwords so you will not need to use a username and password to log in.  If you use this, these would be your steps...

Members --> Read/Download Current Issue --> Click HERE for Flipbook

You can also bookmark this page...
https://www.busconversionmagazine.com/current-magazine/
...and it will take you directly to the Current issue page.  Maybe this will help but then you will not be able to access the back issues or read the Forum.

If you have any ideas on how to make it easier, short of removing all back issues, removing all ads, and making the magazine free, please let me know and we will try what you suggest. I am open to ideas as the additional steps did make it a bit more complex but I thought the new functionality would be be better over all.

Is anyone else having a problem with the Help button not giving you 3 choices to click on?  It works for us here.

Gary,

Throwing in my vote for paid members having easier access to magazines. Once logged in, which should take one screen/popup and a couple fields (user/password), the next page should include a direct link to the current and recent past issues. In other words, a single click should get a paid subscriber seeing the current or past few issues.

Sorry to disagree but that is entirely incorrect. The goal of UI designers is to hide complexity and make sites easier to navigate and access desired content in the fewest steps. Proper UI designed sites do a wonderful job of making navigation of highly functional sites effortless and intuitive. Obviously BCM has a budget far smaller than big commercial sites but simple improvements can make the site much easier to navigate. Don

Windtrader, you are entirely correct, anything can be done with customization.  However we use WordPress for our interface so our hands are somewhat tied without hiring an HTML programmer to make this take less steps.  If you would like to help us cut out some of the steps then please contact me directly. I am a programmer in C, Pascal, Fortran, Basic, PL1, GRIP, and a few others, but I never had the chance to learn HTML.  But you are absolutely correct, we can make this easier, but I would need an HTML programmer that has an interest in helping us out to make this happen. Please send me a PM and we will reduce some of the steps and make it easier for everyone to access the magazine each month.

In my time working with the SMF folks, I know there's been several people that worked with integrating WordPress and SMF.  I'm uncertain where things left off (been out of the loop for about a year), but I know there was several projects published, not sure where they left off or if any of them publicly published completed works, but it'd be worth a look at the SMF forums.
