Cheap touch up paint
« on: June 02, 2018, 04:23:14 PM »
The old girl has been needing a new paint job for awhile. I've tried polishing and a lot of other physically demanding things trying to bring some life back into it. But alas, it's not working. There are a couple of rivets showing and one joint in particular has really cracked (just the paint). While at a garage sale last weekend I stumbled across a box of assorted nail polishes for ten cents each. A couple of them were silver that almost matches the Navajo silver of the bus. I grabbed a bunch and when I got home began mixing and experimenting. I now have 2 little bottles of enamel touch up that is almost identical to the paint on the bus. I have put 3 coats on the flaking area and touched up a dozen rivets or so with light sanding in between and it looks spectacular, even close up! Just had to share this with you all because I'm such a frugal bas..d always looking for a way to (safely) save a few centavos. ;D

I always used nail polish when touching up bicycles, including those painted with Imron that's normally difficult to match well.   It's also pretty durable and adheres nicely.   Good stuff!

You guys must be taking about acrylic paint.  Nail polish isn't going to fix pealing clear coat.  My poor bus has had to sit in the cruel Arizona sun and the clear coat is bad.  I built a 2,000 sq ft RV garage and shop and my bus sits in the sun while I fix other people's problems.

I have to wonder how long nail polish will hold up. It might work well for really small spots, but that could be it's limit.

Very true Geoff but you are always buying garages full of stuff. Did you ever get the second floor finished.
