Bendix AD-9 cartridge?

I want to buy another 107794 dessicant cartridge for my AD-9 air dryer, but all I see online is aftermarket ones such as GPD and Newstar.   Are genuine Bendix cartridges still available?   Are the aftermarket ones any good?   I know the AD-9 is not the latest and greatest  -  ABC Bus yesterday told me that they no longer stock it or its parts, and suggested I look on eBay!   Has Bendix stopped supporting it?

I still stock genuine Bendix AD9 cartridges and purge valves..any truck parts distributor in your area should have them...
I battle with my own company the importance of quality over price.
Some markets, its all about the price..

A few months ago I went to Freightliner to get a rebuild kit for my AD-9. Well, it was old enough where the newer ones are a bit different and they don't support the older models anymore. I bought a rebuilt (by an outside firm, not Bendix) for not too much more than a rebuild kit. It works just fine. Good Luck, TomC

I buy the AD-9 cartridge from NAPA or Carquest in my area new or rebuilt,watch the on- line sales they will dump a AD-4 cartridge on you lol want to buy one for a AD-4

When it says replacement it will be aftermarket,there is no difference in the after market cartridge than a Bendix except price don't sweat it,I've cut both open before it's same stuff inside the housing.lol there is a spring inside the canister that will get your attention I have never found the top for 1 yet

They also sell check valve kits  -  I'll also get one of them, because my dryer has not sounded right for a few years when purging.   Instead of a short blast of air it now vents out a longer PSSSSTTTTT of air, so I guess that either the dryer's check valve or the wet tank's check valve is not sealing well.   I replaced the D-2 governor and replaced the O-rings in the purge valve itself, but it still makes the same long purge.   It's probably no big deal, but I don't want to be stranded one day if it goes tits up on me.

That maybe not all bad John the longer and stronger the purge ,the cleaner and longer lasting is the desiccant.We have 2 new MCI's here that have the CR/Holset dryers the drivers have a hard time understanding the purge volume on those is 460 cubic/inches instead of 260 cubic/inches for the Bendix AD-9 they think something is wrong with the dryer,so I have to explain it to every different driver it is the way the Holset works

Up here, it is popular to exchange the entire air drier for a remanufactured unit.

By the time you get a purge valve, the desicant, tear it apart, put it together, screw it up somehow...

The price point is quite favorable.

If you don't have an air drier yet, or the wrong model, start with a scrap yard take-off and go direct to the store for the reman trade.

I would have an extra purge valve kit and an extra check valve on board. We didn't and had to by-pass the air dryer while on the road because it would not close and build air. PITA

We just fired the engine up for the first time since we installed a Chinese knock off of a system saver 1200 series spin on air drier. The bus compressor wouldn't build air. The D2 governor was blowing air out of the vent port. When I isolated the newly installed dryer, the air built up just fine. Am I to assume the dryer is crap?  Any recommendations before I go back to the drawing board?

Im no mechanic, but I know there are a couple different versions(at least) of the SS1200. R955205, and R955300.
Make sure what you installed was exact cross for what you took off, and that it was plumbed correctly.

The Meritor System Saver is a good dryer,the knock off version not that great but will work once you get it to work ,it's best if you pay the money difference of $200.00 + or so more and buy the Meritor.The knock off versions of the AD-9 seem to be better I have installed a couple of those the owners purchased from Luke so far no trouble lol but the 2 are in AZ so we don't know if the heater works or not

I just bid $100 on a New Meritor Wabco System Saver 12V Air Dryer No Core Replaces R955205, name brand no knockoff. Ironically I got a full refund w/o return on the knockoff that's installed now - it was a waste of time...
