Turbo pipe to exhaust manifold gasket???
« on: December 09, 2018, 06:38:26 AM »
I finally got a turbo-to-exhaust-manifold pipe and got it installed. The old one actually had a large hole in the pipe. The bellows was fine. When I removed the old pipe, there was a white ring around the mating surface. It looked a little like a gasket but I really paid little attention to it, as I had not seen a gasket on the others I have replaced. Also, it came apart quickly as I remove the old pipe.  I cleaned up the manifold side with a wire brush and installed the new pipe. The manifold to pipe joint appeared a little loose but it clamped down fine. Now I have a very small leak in that joint. Was there ever a gasket for that joint? Should I try to make one? If so, what kind of material would work?

Tom I use Resbond 907 on all the connections apply it tighten the clamp let set over night and no more leaks on a turbo system, it is not cheap though but works

There's no gasket, but the trick is to loosen the manifold, tighten the clamps, then tighten the manifold back up.

Thanks Clifford. It's got to be cheaper then having my wife mad at me because the coach smells like diesel.

Thanks Geoff but that's too much work! LOL! Getting to the manifold bolts is a job for Mighty Mouse on my coach. I'll try gooping it up first!

Performance shops for cars sell gasket material for exhaust to withstand the high temperatures.

I've used their (Cotronics Corp.) Aluminum Putty to repair aluminum castings, it dries hard enough to machine or file. They have other products as well such Stainless Steel putty, in addition to Resbond 907.

I ordered some Resbond 907GF. Hopefully that will solve the problem. Thanks to all for the help!
