93 Ford ward amtran 5.9 Cummins

Hello my name's Patchwork and my lady and I are glass blowers and our bus is our mobile shop !!!we have lived in our bus "JANET" (aka the hobo Hilton) for 5 years and live in Montana most of the time is there any other bus folks that have a 30 foot ford with a 5.9 turbo Cummins in it out there they have converted?!!!

None of ours use a 5.9 Cummins, so maybe try the Dodge forums in their diesel section. There should be the info you need. Glass blowing sounds interesting btw.

We had the little brother to the 5.9 in our step van, a Cummins 4BT. Never really had to do anything with that engine but replace an idler pulley. Great engines and lots of reliability.

     What vehicle are you running that in, Dan?  Is yours the "C 8.3" or an ISC?

 In 1998 the "C" became a 24 valve ISC electronic....I have the last of the "C" 12 valve engines nested in an American Tradition that gives me great power,,reliability,, and 10 miles to the gallon..  The ISC gets about 7.5 with the same load and has frequent sensor issues... >>>Dan

    I'm right in the middle of putting an ISC in my bus, Dan.  This is not good news.  Do you know anything about avoiding injector pump issues on C/ISC engines?  Still, every one says that the ISC is a good engine (not the best but good) so I'll see how it goes.

BH,, The "C" and the ISC have different pumps,, the "C" has the Bosch P7100 and the ISC uses the P44 Bosch. The 44 is obviously electronicly controlled and uses a "lift" pump that is problamatic,, the 71 pump is mechanical and needs no lift pump.>>>Dan

    Thanks, Dan.  I appreciate that info (even if it's not good news).  I'll Google around and see if anybody has come up with a fix or an update that solves the lift pump problem.
(PS  Just turned over 500,000 miles on my TDI - had to rebuild the fuel pump soon after I bought it, first owner on lease didn't do any maintenance on it - but it's done 400,000 miles trouble-free since then.)

  Bruce,, The ISC with the lift pump also has an internal screen type filter going into the pump.. This screen is the last filtration prior to the pump and will sometimes "catch" something and cause a drop in performance,, techs will change all the fuel filters and neglect the screen,(witch requires the removal of the lift pump to access ) and spend much money before remembering it.>>>Dan
