I'm tracking down the oil leaks on my 6v92 here. Every darn bolt had a drop of oil on it it seemed. When I turn just right I'd leave a trail of oil. I figured I had a leak in the side of the pan gasket. When I took it off the gasket was in tack and appeared to be in good shape. I couldn't see any part of it that was wet with oil.
Now on to what I did find and need help with.
I found all the bolts had lock wasters on them. I thought copper washers was the norm
I found a few bolt holes that where stripped out. (see attached.)
I noticed a few of the other where stripped but had a longer bolt put in and it was re-drilled and tapped I assume. On my trans bell housing there are a mix of 5/8 and 1/2 inch bolt heads going around it. I'm assuming the 5/8 ones used to be 1/2 and where drilled and tapped. I've had some recommendations on doing helicoils, or should I skip it and just have a few 5/8 oil pan bolts?
Other than that, the bottom end looks clean, oil pickup looks good, nothing on the oil drain plug, nothing in the oil pan. I'm happy. Some have also suggested looking at the rod bearings, I'm a little nervous I won't torque it back to spec properly and ruin something.
