Aqua Hot Question
« on: December 15, 2020, 04:18:16 AM »
Ok my Aqua hot has 3  swing gate check valves mounted in a vertical position and are all ways sticking closed and the pumps don't put out enough pressure to open those if you don't use the system every day.I spoke with another manufacture of the same type heat he said mount the check valves in a horizonal position and the problem is gone what say you plumbing guys.?.They are 1/2 inch check valves fwiw and Aqua Hot wants 38 bucks each for the check valves you buy from Ace for 12 bucks,I need a little feed back before I jump off into this today

my 3 x valves are vertical and are working good right now but I also installed this ball valve so nothing works unless the power ball valve is on

but I have a loop pump under each vertical valve

( in the pic I had a solenoid valve at first but it was $#!% so I replaced it with the power ball valve )

I have the loop pumps too under each valve, this unit uses a special antifreeze and I think it is causing my problem because lack of lubrication, the Aqua Hot techs tell me this a common problem on these units.I am going to change the check valves and pay Agua Hot their overpriced $29.00 a gal for the anti freeze and hope for the best I am sick of tapping on the check valves to make a zone work

Not related to the bus world & coming strictly from the plumbing world, a mechanical swing gate check valve should always be mounted in a horizontal position. If one should happen to be working in a vertical position - consider yourself lucky!

I have only worked with the larger check valve and most were mounted in horizontal position

Looks like my radiator valves are vertical and the small pump is mounted the same. The large motor feeding water to the heater is horizontal. found another image - more horizontal valves

Ball valves or spring loaded check valves can be installed in any position unlike swing gate check valves.

Why do you need check valves in the first place? I have installed two hydronic heating systems in two different houses, and there are no check valves. I suppose AquaHot has a good reason for them...

What I was told they are to keep the zones from siphoning back into main system while heating or on demand hot water,The Country Coach will turn the Aqua Hot on if the heat pumps don't keep up I could not figure out why mine would change on it own.JC write this filter number Wix 33109 is the filter cross over number for you Aqua Hot lol and carry a spare

that's what I have done as well but because I had then attached to the zone pumps I thought I might as well use them . they are kinda junk as I am sure they would never close tight enough to stop a syphon from happening .
best would be a ball valve  ( powered or not )
the powered ball valve on my system only opens when the floor zones ask for heat so if the boiler is heating up domestic  hot water there is no heat wasted on the floor . in my old aqua hot system when the boiler was on it would allow 1 zone to run and it was a pain in the @$# if it was hot out and the air was on as you could feel the warm floor if the water heat side of the system was on . dumb

Cliff -

I believe that WIX number crosses over to NAPA Gold 3109?

My AH frustrates me to the point I bought a 120vac 20g electric water heater because I couldn't get enough hot water out of the AH to do dishes, let alone take a shower.  Yet the unit will heat the cabin and engine block fine. Go figure.

Grrrr. . .

Grrrr. .

Ours make plenty of hot water even on electric since it is the XE model, all is good now with the zone that not was working with a new check valve. That number sounds right for NAPA I just can get a bettter deal with O'Rilieys, the techs tell me the later XE models are not prone to as many problems as the older units lol I will wait and see
