It will be wait and see but most are saying Toyota new 5.0 V8 Hydrogen fueled engine will be the end of EV's,EV's don't have a big share of the new car market to start with any share they lose they could be in trouble. Tesla is king of the mountain if they have problems watch out

Yeah it's not going to be the end of EVs unless it produces and delivers its own hydrogen.  Running an engine on hydrogen is by far the easiest part of the whole process.

They will get there with players like Cummins and Toyota in the Hydrogen game  Cummins being the 1st in truck engines and Toyota the # 1 car manufacture even Caterpillar is into 100% Hydrogen engines. I read where another EU country besides Switzerland is limiting the sale of EV's I am not too worried about the green deal anyways in my lifetime diesel fuel works ok for me,I get a laugh out of people driving a bus with the nastiest polluting engine ever made pushing the EV's deal  8)EV's like the Tesla are nice cars but they are not for everyone and not all people are going to buy in to EV's

hydrogen fueled vs electric fueled  to me is like Webasto vs propane furnaces. One gets the job done, but much simpler. We'll  see. I can make lots of popcorn.

The company plans to reach its green H2 transportation goal by 2030.
Plug Power Inc. (PLUG) believes that green H2 produced from renewable power will help the transportation sector reach carbon neutrality, which it aims to accomplish with its green hydrogen highway project by 2030.

Plug is working on making renewable hydrogen production as affordable as diesel.
Plug Power’s support of green hydrogen is nothing new. The Albany-based company has been a hydrogen energy solutions provider for years. However, it’s green hydrogen highway project is one of its – and the world’s – most ambitious clean energy projects. In essence, the company is trying to achieve green H2 production affordability, so that production will match the price of diesel.

However, the current challenge faced by renewable hydrogen is that the cost to generate it is too high to make it cost-effective. This is especially true for the trucking industry where the price of H2 must be on par or closer to the cost of diesel for signification adoption to take place.

Plug has been working on not only creating a renewable source of fuel but one that is affordable. It has over 50,000 e-mobility units in operation, mostly forklifts. What’s more, with the help of government support, such as the Inflation Reduction Act, this will only help to drive the cost down more.

“Every time we doubled the number of units in the field, our costs declined by about 25%,” said Plug Power president and CEO Andy
There are several aspects that contribute to the potential of Plug’s green hydrogen goal.
Among the different ways Plug is attempting to reach its green hydrogen highway 2030 target is through various partnerships, including with Renault. The two companies entered a joint venture called HYVIA to make H2-TECH hydrogen-powered commercial vans. The Master Van H2-TECH can carry a payload of up to one ton and reach almost 250 miles per tank. This zero-emission vehicle is suited for all commercial transport applications.

...Among its big-name customers include Amazon, Microsoft, Walmart, General Motors, and Home Depot.

One Billion Hours at Plug
Moreover, the company has long been building the infrastructure, service and distribution network that is required to make green H2 more readily available by the end of the decade. It also built a gigafactory in 2021.

At Plug’s gigafactory, the company manufactures the membrane electrode assemblies – approximately 2 million annually – which are key components in its electrolyzers and fuel cells. Additionally, the company has 31 other facilities it uses to make other parts and systems, process hydrogen, and for distribution and service purposes...

Sounds like another pipe dream. Hopefully, the investors don't  get screwed again while top executives enjoy rich lifestyle while little actually goes into product. Then another failed concept. We will see.

The University of Michigan’s Water Splitting Method Makes Hydrogen Like Plants Do
The university says it's more efficient, greener, and potentially cheaper than the way we make hydrogen now.

Motor trend
When it comes to greener ways to power our cars, two main avenues are emerging: battery-electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (HCEVs) like the Toyota Mirai. While EVs are the major focus of most manufacturers, HCEVs have been shown to be less polluting than gasoline vehicles. But there are many ways of producing hydrogen, and not all of them are as green as we'd like. But new production methods are the subject of a new University of Michigan study, and the researchers claim to have found a way to not only make hydrogen production greener, but also cheaper.

Hydrogen is an excellent replacement for petroleum in internal combustion engines. Studies have shown it is a very green fuel at the tailpipe and wouldn't take much to convert current cars to run on the naturally occurring and fairly abundant element... Hydrogen is currently produced in a few ways, like electrolysis (using electricity to separate hydrogen and oxygen from water molwhat if we were to use the sun to create hydrogen instead? According to FuelCellWorks, the University of Michigan may have a more efficient way to do that.

The demonstration was kicked off by Air Liquide, Hyzon Motors and TALKE.
The companies launched the first demonstration of a hydrogen fuel cell truck at the Port of Houston, which was the site of a 10-day trial of Hyzon’s H2 trucks that TALKE Group deployed in daily drayage operations hauling cargo loads within the Texas-based port.

The demonstration of hydrogen mobility is essential for speeding up the clean fuel energy transition.

The hydrogen fuel cell truck demonstration is important for accelerating the energy transition toward clean fuel, particularly for supporting heavy duty vehicles like trucks and hydrogen infrastructure. Air Liquide signed a separate agreement with Hyzon Motors early in 2022 to commercially pilot and test two heavy duty hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks.

“Nikola has spent the greater part of two years developing a flexible mobile fueling solution which cools and compresses hydrogen to rapidly fill 700 bar FCEV heavy-duty trucks,” said Michael Lohscheller, Nikola Corporation president and CEO. “Coupled with Nikola’s hydrogen tube trailer, with a capacity of 960 kg, Nikola’s mobile fueler can refuel customer trucks back-to-back. This will deliver flexible hydrogen fueling solutions for our customers starting in 2023 and will complement Nikola’s permanent hydrogen fueling stations which are being developed.”

Nikola’s first mobile fueler for hydrogen fuel cell trucks has finished commissioning and testing.
The company’s first mobile fueler has already completed its commissioning and testing phase for the project and is now being released into market operation. It has also received additional commissions for mobile fuelers for the first quarter of this year...

I was reading this article on Motor Trend magazine and a thought occurred to me about peoples reticence about how long it will take to build the infrastructure for hydrogen fueling stations. It took a time to build out the modern fueling stations for CNG.
T. Boone Pickens added to and built from scratch CNG stations all over the US, in a relatively short period of time. The comparison of CNG to Hydrogens are high. This excerpt of the articles talks about how one big company dealt with the charging issues...

Go Inside the New Tesla Semi: Features, Screens, Seats, and More
We visited Frito-Lay to find out what the Semi's interior looks like, and how it drives and charges.
Christian SeabaughWriterBrandon LimPhotographerJan 25, 2023
...The out-and-backs are crucial because at the moment there are few places to charge an electric Tesla Semi. Frito-Lay installed four Superchargers onsite in dedicated "Tesla Semi" parking stalls, all of which feature a unique squarish plug incompatible with any other Tesla we're aware of. The chargers are capable of outputting 750 kW, far exceeding the 250-kW peak rates of Tesla's passenger vehicles and existing Supercharger network. That, says Frito-Lay, is good enough to charge its fleet of Tesla Semis from nearly empty to 70 percent in about a half hour (good for 400 miles), and to 100 percent in about 90 minutes...

SCIENTISTS DEVELOP SOLAR BATTERY FOR HYDROGEN PRODUCTION
By Anela Dokso
January 27, 2023

Chemical engineers at Lausanne’s École Polytechnique Federale developed a translucent and porous electrode-based solar-powered artificial sheet.
The artificial leaf converts atmospheric water into hydrogen fuel. Semiconductor technology is scalable.

For decades, academics have dreamed of a solar-powered gadget that harvests airborne water and produces hydrogen fuel. EPFL Chemical Engineer Kevin Sivula and his team have advanced that vision.

The team’s innovative yet simple approach combines semiconductor technology with new electrodes that are porous to promote air-water contact and transparent to optimize sunlight’s effect on the semiconductor coating. The device absorbs airborne water and generates hydrogen gas when exposed to sunshine.

This solar-powered system uses transparent, porous, and conductive gaseous diffusion electrodes to transform air-borne water into hydrogen fuel.
