EPA and their FInes
« on: December 23, 2023, 05:59:42 AM »
The price of Cummins parts and services just went up,the EPA fined Cummins 1 billion 600 million dollars for emission tampering. Better keep your old 2 strokes engines till they are forced off the road. Anyone with common sense knows Cummins is going to pass the cost down to  the consumers .This is one reason CAT wanted out of the on highway market

Wow, that's crazy. Pushing all the diesel manufacturers out of business. On the newell forum a guy with his mechanical 8v92 (1986 model year) was denied emission testing in phoenix. They wanted him to put fuel injection on his mechanical engine to meet 1988 standards. Told them his bus was built that way and original. Seems AZ is silently following CA. I had my bus registered and titled in MT. So sick of all this.

I started to do the MT LLC,AZ has some screwy laws I bought my CC in Texas that a dealer had a 1 time power of attorneyn on  from the seller, in Az if you buy from a private party  there is no sales tax from a dealer you pay sales tax. With the power of attorney they decided I bought it from dealer and charged me almost $15,000.00 in taxes and $1300.00 a year for plates .I could have done it Texas by getting Texas driver license for a flat $500.00 I found out later

That's just frustrating to hear. I only went the MT route to avoid emissions testing which always landed on the month we traveled. Not having to deal with yearly registration is a plus. The bus just sits for 7 months of the year.

EPA has done some good things but like all Government agencies  they can over step their boundaries if you don't contest their actions.I have my battles with them over stupid stuff ,they tried to fine me a million bucks for storing asphalt we had taken up from a parking lot yea the stuff you drive on everyday,EPA lost that battle after 3 years in court

I'm a professional painter and am required to be certified in "lead safe practices" in order to paint anything with lead paint on it.

I decided to avoid those projects because I'm busy enough to pick and choose.

I once was asked to quote a job. When I got there the guy was wearing an ID badge from the EPA. His house was 5 minutes from a branch office in Cincinnati (Clifton).

I respectfully passed. His house was covered in flaking lead paint...

It's been about 5+/- yrs since Don Fairchild told me that Cummins was falsifying their emissions testing and would evetually get caught! He also agreed it was the reason CAT left the US OTR market as it was too hard to legally comply!
Seems like he knew what he was talking about, but then again he usually does!

I n my mid 20s, for 18 months I was a professional "lead burner", installing lead linings in acid storage tanks and related lead plumbing using oxyacetylene systems.. Now at 82, am still as healthy as to be expected.. I guess the lead back then was different than todays lead.>>>Dan
