I've seen some fancy fire pits similar to these. IMO - beside the heat, the asthetics of the flames is missing on these kinds of units. Just saying.

That is because these are brand-new units shown in the image above.  Once you add some wood and start a fire, the flames shoot quite high and put out a lot of heat.  I used one similar to this and people loved it.

Note: The type of wood you use makes a difference.  I grew up in a house with wood heat and five fireplaces.  You learn what wood burns best with experience, and seasoned wood burns much better than fresh-cut green wood.  Just sayin'. 

Bottom line, once they get going, they put out a lot of heat.

That's a good looking fire, and different from some of the high tech fire devices I've been seeing.
