Factory Tint
« on: March 23, 2025, 10:33:39 AM »
Can anyone definitively tell me if the MCI windows are factory tinted (during window manufacturing) or if they have a film?

I'm leaning towards factory. I started the process this morning or removing the existing film prior to installing new.

I heated the window and began to pick around the edges. Nothing would lift. Looks really consist and hard.

I don't think they have a film in them...

There is also ceramic film, which I put on the windshields. You can get tint of different grades. I noticed the heat protection most driving into the summer sun...

That's what I thought.

I ran a test. I applied the film on the inside of one and outside of the other.

I used an infrared thermometer to determine they were both blazing hot still.

Some pros advised me that the existing tint is too much to overcome and works on clear glass much better.

So...I'm inventing bus shutters

We have diy insulated (thick) curten material. Drastically slows down hot or cold transmission. Fwiw.

Tint is mostly to cut the UV from the sun out some of it does have heat rejection but not much ,I never could tell a difference when I had the windows in my pickup tinted here in the AZ heat, double pane windows seems to be the best answer but you still get a lot of heat through the wind shields I did with the big windshield in the Country Coach it was 54 inches tall and 98 inches wide it was a glass oven here ,my dash air would keep it check most of the time

How do y'all feel about the cellular shades? I always thought they did a decent job of fighting the heat.

So the solution is an exterior dual reflective film.

Same film as on large commercial buildings.

The blinds just don't help enough. They help, but not enough.

As far as parking, the exterior sun shades are very effective blocking sunlight & heat before it gets to the glass. When sitting for a spell we have them to clip over every window that's not under an awning thus enabling a single roof air to keep the interior comfortable at the same time not eliminating any view.

Follow-up:

I installed solar guard sentinel plus silver 20 on one window. When comparing to the adjacent window, the difference was incredible.

15 windows to go.

Solar guard is a version of what I noted earlier, ceramic particles...

The ceramics are great. However it did nothing to stop the heat on the factory tint windows.

The film I installed is an exterior dual reflective. I'll post pics when I'm finishee.
