Retrofit  with a set of Prevost luggage bay gas shocks, they are fairly inexspensive along wit the mounting hardware.

Van I don't know if you could make the Prevost door setup work on a MCI or not ,they have a inner door that is part of the hinge and they hinge from the bottom,I looked at on my MCI to do away the cables and spring ,you know me I looked at for a week and decide naw to much work involved I never liked the setup MCI used

So, did you just stick with the spring setup? Anyone know the MCI part number for a replacement?

Home Depot cables etc. No one makes those anymore unless Luke in Vineland NJ has any.

A wire rope supplier should be able to make the 2 cables for you 1 end has a ball stop cripped on it for the yoke to slide on the cable, you may find something at H/D to work for you but the OEM was 1/8th inch aircraft cable real flexible stuff

Did think about just replacing the broken cable...is there a trick to getting the "nut" out of the spring?
