Removing rubber strips from bottom of MCI 102A3
« on: April 13, 2007, 08:41:50 PM »
I am thinking about removing the rubber bumper strips along the bottom of the bus (MCI 102A3).  I am wanting a cleaner line.  Has anyone tried this and what has been the results?  How are the rubber strips fastened to the sides?

Thanks,
Danny

If they're similar to an MC9, you'll find small holes in the door with nylon nuts retaining "T" bolts that slide into the trim.  Had to replace a couple pieces on mine due to corrosionof the trim.
You'll have to figure out how to cover up the 3/8 holes left in the panels.
Also may have to work on the area behind the trim.  The stainless may be pretty rough.
Could install smooth panels on the sides...that would look good.
Refer to Nick's B's bus pix for an idea of what "smooth sides" conversion looks like.
I believe IBP may have (had?) polished aluminum trim for your coach...?
I'd like to lose the stainless, but as with many of these projects, unless you a fabricator, the finished cost of nicer optional body mods may rival the value of the shell.
Good luck, JR
