Chaz -

Back in the late '70s, there was a bus company in San Diego that ran a bunch of Old Looks around town, stopping at all the major hotels and tourist attractions.  Folk could buy a pass and jump on and off at will.  Called "The Bus That Goes In Circles", one route ran clockwise, the other ran counter-clockwise.  They had two different, yet great, sayings on their destination signs:

"Thisaway" for the clockwise route

"Thataway" for the counter-clockwise one.

I've got those two on my list for my sign roll, along with:

Eh?  (For my Canadian son-in-law) (You too, Buswarrior. . . LOL)
Giant Greenbrier (Think about that one. . .)
MB3 + CB (For the grandkids)
Next Bus Please
Full
Lost
Homeward Bound
Got Mechanic Coming
Sports Car of Buses ('cause it's a 4106)
Genuine 49er Inside (Was born in 1949)
!TUO HCTAW (Read it backwards)

I've got some more, but they're buried in a box somewhere after my recent move. . .

This should be a fun thread - thanks for starting it, Chaz!

When I stripped my bus the destination sign was saved for one reason it actually had one selection that did say, "I'm Lost",  I keep this in my shop because it so well describes my typical day!

Still waiting to get my bus, but mine will have "Hell In A Basket" and "Going Broke Fast" and "Nobody Rides for Free" in its sign selection.

This is almost X rated and was seen on an entertainer coach "shouzurtitz". Also saw this one "nobodyuno". We kept our destination scroll in place. In addition to towns, it had BARBIZON, BLOSSOM SPECIAL, and PRIVATE COACH.  We have not added any new ones YET!. We run PRIVATE COACH, but have considered having a new scroll made with Are We There Yet,  Where Are We, Guess Who's Onboard, and Bluegrass Express.  Jack

Mine include "Wrong Bus", "Who Knows?", "Somewhere Else", and "Nowhere via Subway"  (I've always wanted that one, from riding transit in Boston for so many years).  "Baseball Coach" as well as "Go Rangers"  (the Dallas area baseball team) for my wife.  "Canada", "Texas", "1968 GMC PD-4107" and "Private Coach" for the serious side.

There's also one that'll have to be explained to many folks - but will drive some of the New England railfans nuts (remember, I'm one of them even though I live in Texas now..

The Boston transit system has an underground subway station, now Government Center Under on what is now the Blue Line Rapid Transit.  This was formerly "Scollay Under" - where one could transfer to/from what is now the Green Line.  This is on the East Boston Tunnel line, dug in 1904 as a streetcar subway, upgraded to rapid transit in 1924.   Since the line was designed for streetcars, the subway portion has very tight clearances, making for short, narrow rapid transit cars.

When I was a kid, that's how we would go into downtown Boston.  So, I added a destination of "Scollay Under" ---  and I have every intention of being in the parking lot of the Seashore Trolley Museum in Maine (I'm a 40-year member)  --  with the coach signed up "Scollay Under", on a destination sign printed by the original sign manufacturer.  I expect that to cause some double-takes, and some "what the heck?"

The one I wish I'd seen before placing the order is Kyle's "I Can't Tell You", you'll see a picture in the 4905 thread.  It's not plagiarism, it's the Dictum of Selective Thievery --  something I learned from a Transit System General Manager years ago.

Now, a suggestion for a rear sign .... "Hang Up and Drive".

Thanx guy!!! I knew you would be weighing in Ron!!  ;)

Thanx Jack! I do believe I will be using those two suggestions!!!  ;D My girlfriend has a great sense of humor and my racing friends will have a field day with them!! I may have to get a remote so they don't bug me so much as we are cruisin.  ;)

I definitely want to do some backwards signs too. It will even make people think a little bit who read them forwards.

Nick, the songs idea is cool too! I think I may have to put Led Zepplin and maybe the Beatles on there too! Zep did "Ramble On", Deep Purple did "Space Truckin", Yes did "Starship Trooper", and how about a play on "Little Duece Coupe"- Little Duece Couple.  :)  I think I'll pass on " Jerry Garcia on board". Might draw too much attention!  LOLOL  ;)

OH!!!!!!!!!!! and the ever imfamous - "Just Passin Thru"!!!!!!!!! I wonder if I can get that little bearded fellow on there too?!  ;D

Keep the ideas comin! But don't tax your brain cells too hard. Ya need'em for thinking about bus's and helping out us rookie's.

Tryin to be a Great Literary Figure,

My favorite was on an GM old look I bought several years ago. "Burnham School For Girls."
