GM baggage door gas struts

Anyone ever replace the torsion springs and use gas struts?

If so, source for parts, diagram of setup or picture.

Our 4107 had the springs replaced with struts when we got it, one on each side of the opening. They work fine.  They had to shim them out from the opening a little to clear when opening and closing the door.  Cary

In case any GM owners are interested!!!

Ed at Edannbus@aol.com has the mounts and information to switch from the torsion bars to a gas strut setup.

The mounts are 30.00 a door and the struts are 26.00 from the manufacturer.

I will post again on this after I get mine in.

Cliff my 4106 has gas struts all around but the last owner said they were ripping the rubber hinges in the up position by putting constant pressure them. He drilled a hole at the top of each ram and tied a little pin to them to stick in the hole to hold them open. works fine but I think the problem could have been solved by moving the bottom mount of the strut down enough to let the strut extend fully before the door ran out of travel. any way now I will be replacing them a couple at a time. I think they will be great properly installed so thanks for the info on where to get them.

      P.S.  thought I'd share this with you because it would be an easy mistake to make not thinking about the rubber hinge. Not the same as holding the door up on the back of an SUV.

Thanks for the heads up.

I would definitely want them at max extensiion for the reasons you stated.

I should mention that I have replaced almost all the upper rubber hinges with the stainless steel ones that Ed sells.

That may eliminate any problems with a constant tension.
