My experience and tips FWIW.

I always try to have the space I'm backing into on the left.

I walk the space first and set an orange traffic cone where I want the left rear corner of the bus to be.

My instructions to my helper (wife) are to always be able to see me in the mirror and to only tell me when to stop, not which way to go.  She tells me often enough where to go.

Len -

Excellent tip!!

Even if mama wasn't there to help, the combination of walking it first, backing to the left instead of the right, and using an orange cone as a marker, should reduce the misadventures significantly!!

Thanks for sharing!

I'll throw a rub in.

First time i tried to back out of this house i had to get off in the grass,  i got a little too far and the bus was leaning. no biggy, right?, clear in my mirror all the way down the side of my bus lined up to the street across the street.  Heard a slight thump and the bus wouldn't move ???.  I had moved the front into a tree that bumped at the roof :-[,  I wasnt looking in the convex mirrors, just the flat ones, didn't see the tree up high on the bus.  pulled back up and tried again, no harm done this time, just a little scratch.
It's all fun and games til someone gets hurt. ;)
