shocks for eagle.

Do any of you know the #shocks the are made by gabriel-gas slx there are ajustable but can't find the part number.

Connel, I went back into my Eagle files and find that the Gabriel number given by Joe Laird was SLX 85-425, but David Anderson had the number as SLX 89-425 (same as your number). 

Joe, if you are on line, can you check your number again?

David suggests Auto Zone as the best source.  He had to order his and paid $49.95.  Is this still the best source?

I need to get shocks for my Eagle as well -- probably just the front for now.

89-425 looks like the correct number.  I still vote for Autozone.  They ordered 8 of them and I had them in 3 days.  They were $49.95 each, but that was back in 2001.  I installed them myself.  It was a full day's job.

I got mine from Dave at Southern Oregon Diesel and that was one of the best investments I ever made. If all else fails, contact Dave. If I recall correctly I believe I turned Dave Anderson on the these many moons ago!

The number I have is Gabriel SLX 89-425.

May question is how do you know you need new shocks?  On cars I can do the old push down on the fender test and if it hops more than once, its time...a little hard to do on my big Eagle.  Is it odd tire wear that is the tell-tale sign?

Does your Eagle porpoise?
Are any of the shocks obviously leaking?
Does it handle bumps well?

If the ride height is properly adjusted, it should not do any of the above if the shocks are good.

They are very easy to remove. Take one off and fully collapse it then fully extend it. If it offers little resistance, it is worn out.

The Gabriel shocks referenced below are dual action. I highly recommend them.

Porpoising is my best indicator. If you still have the original shocks they are probably defective. The Gabriel shocks recommended are great. Totally eliminated my porpoising when going over any road transition.
