MAK Rally?????Rally is OFF. OFF, OFF
« on: January 22, 2008, 08:11:39 AM »
I am getting nervous about this rally!!!!

We are on the road and have not received the most recent mag., so I don't know if there is a sign-up form there.  On the BC website, I can't find a sign-up form.  The fact that the rally is only a bit over three months away, and none of us have a way to sign up, make me very uneasy!!!  The sign up form was supposed to be in the November issue.

As a potential vendor, it is really **IMPORTANT** that we can be assured there will be a rally (we are trying to make plans for activities that compliment their schedule), and that we can be accepted as vendors (we have been to all but one of MAK rallies and were vendors at the last two).

I guess I should pick up the phone, but *ALL* of the folks that read this BB  need to know the status of the rally.

I have hinted at this issue before, but did not get any feedback.  Now, I feel the need to be more blunt.

As a side note, vendors generally plan their calendars at least 9 months in advance (usually a year) and they need to be able to make sure that they are properly "contracted" with the organizer at least 4 months in advance.  Many potential vendors have probably kissed the rally off and that should not be.

I am not a vendor but I have made plans to go in a different direction being the rally is just over 3 months away and no ones seems to know if its going to happen or not.

Jim,

I just went through the new magazine and still no information about the Rally other than ads on it for May 2 to 4th.

Nobody told me anything about it.  Coincidence? I think not, it's a conspiracy!!

Don't think it was a conspiracy :).  Do a search and you will find it has been discussed several times.  Also been in the mag. for a few months.  Maybe it is your eyes that are conspiring against you ;D.

I did finally pick up the phone and left a message yesterday (Wednesday) for MAK to call me.  Have not heard back yet.

I sure hope he pulls it off, since the location is fun and getting bus folks together is always fun!!!!

I'm not worried about it, especially since it's doubtful I could attend. I just like personalized, engraved invitations hand delivered by 50 virgins or I feel left out and unspecial.

I am posting an update to bring this thread to the top again.

I have now left phone messages for both MAK (two days ago) and Dennis (today 1/25) and have not heard anything yet.

I am trying not to be a pain, but the details of this rally need to be published, or the rally needs to be canceled.

Jim, we been down this road before a couple times over the years with Mikes rallies.   I know its a problem for you vendors and we need you guys with the info and products that you provide . If the rally happens I will attend as I always do but it would be nice if we had some type of info good or bad about the rally

I feel your pain Jim.  I don't know why they would be keeping you from knowing the details.  The only thing I can think of is they are not prepared yet and really don't know what the details are.

I've found that calling him 5 or 6 times an hour works, eventually.  Short of that...

Believe me, there was a reason I was so persistent.

It's too bad though, the rallies back in the 90s were really something, I went to several in SoCal and Vegas and thoroughly enjoyed them, it helped feed the passion.

Hi Clifford.  Thanks for the offer.  We had already made one commitment in CA that would fit nicely with the MAK rally.  At the time we had no doubt that the rally would take place and felt confident that we could put together a good trip.  We have been looking at other activities that would tie in with the rally, but we can't do any more planning until we know the status of the rally.

I hope you are wrong about the rally.  I was really looking forward to attending.

Because of the deafening silence, I am very concerned.  I will drop a note to Phil and see if he can get a response.

Jim

I went about a different method heres the answer I got from the Caverns about the Rally

Re: Mak Rally May 2 - 4
From: gccmotel@tabletoptelephone.com

To: larry Hig. (larhi@hotmail.com)

Yes, you do need to make reservations. The spots are $30 per night plus tax and include water and electric hookups along with a free sewer dump. Please call our reservation desk at 928-422-3223 to make your reservation.

So from this answer they are taking reservations for the Rally

If Mike hasn't upgraded the park no way I would  pay 30.00 per day for a 15amp service and try to dodge the trees . someone may know how many sites he has now but 2 years ago there was just a few on the top by the restaurant. We need more information besides a parking fee if this is a rally or gathering how about it Mike. you moderators are quite on this topic guess your in the dark also

LarryH.  Almost every rally that I know of, had a fee.  That fee includes the camping and certain other activities (generally at least one meal).  The fee is usually priced such that it is less expensive that a "drive off the street" rate.

Luvrbus, on one of the related websites, it says that they have redone the camping area and it now includes most of the amenities of your typical campground, including WiFi.  I am not sure about 50 amp, but whatever I read suggested they had put some money in the facilities.

As of late today (1/29) neither MAK or Dennis have returned my calls.

Phil Lyons wrote me a note saying that he would try to contact MAK and see if he could get an answer.  Phil is pretty well connected, so I would expect that he can find a way to contact them.

Just to be clear (communication on these boards does not always come out the way we intend), I really want this rally to take place.  I believe that any event involving crazy bus folks can be very fun ;D ;D  I like the Caverns, since it lends itself to a laid back environment and exudes history (located on old route 66).

Jim,

I am waiting for an answer to email I sent MAK, also.  From the number of people that have commented on "no communications" I suspect that something might be wrong.  Mike has, in the past, been timely in every respect with our dealings.  Illness....employees...other stuff.  He has helped more than his share and maybe he now needs an assist.  Anybody know?

I had contacted Phil to see if he could contact MAK or Dennis (because of his relationship with the folks at BC).  He had not had a chance to get to it, but said he would try today.

I still have not been contacted.

This is a real shame. I was thinking we might ride up there and check this out after the great time we had at Quartzsite. And even though it is bad that the rally will most likely not happen (or at least no one will be there for lack of knowledge), the worse thing is the lack of communication of any kind. We all support this board and the magazine but this is not good.

I can't imagine no one contacting you guys that are interested. Hope it all works out somehow. Sounds like there is enough interest in attending one at the Caverns.

With all the previous talk from Mike about having one it, something doesn't sound right.

Maybe TomC could drive over and talk to him.

Good Luck!

Hi Guy's,

Mike is not always the easiest person to get a hold of but, it's listed on the site.

http://busconversions.com/event_calendar.html

I think that the details are just not worked out yet and he will post when they are.

Just to make sure we are all on the same page, there will be a rally.

Phil Lyons posted a "sticky" with the title "Caverns is ON".

The "Caverns" and MAK rally are one in the same.

I thought I would bring this to the top again and mention that there is some dialog going on about this rally in this thread:  http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=7253.0.

At least we got a response from Dennis.  If you read that topic, you will see that I am not very pleased with the response, but at least we got one.
