In MN I have mine registered at the gross weight on my data tag of 40,000lbs which puts me into the 45,000lbs or less category. IIRC the cut off was 38,000lbs. Registration is $447 plus $5 wheelage tax and $4.50 filing fee for a total of $456.50.

Don't be using the word "bus" or "conversion" with the DMV.

You have an "RV" or "motorhome" that you need to licence.

That $$$ sounds like commercial tags.

If it hasn't already been changed to that designation, you have "changed the intended purpose of the vehicle from its former use." Usually some hand written declaration of having changed its purpose to one of a recreational vehicle does the job.

Unwittingly tag it commercial, and see what happens to your insurance next!!!

It was for a motorhome.

I say $500....it was something like $468 plus all their little annoying add-ons.

I guess it's cheap when you consider that it's less than a tank of fuel. >:(

Ah..... well AL ain't far from TN. I would think maybe you might have a friend or busnut friend or two that may have an address you could use! I know a guy who lives in VA who has an 8 registered as a MH in TN.

Like BK says go to a state next door and register it. Pa is 81.00 a year last I checked. Some freinds built a trailer and put NY plates on it instead of fighting with Pa.  Tom Y

The $450 is correct for Minnesota.  Motorhome registration is not cheap here.  But, better than the states that charge property tax on RVs that can be $1000 to $4000 a year.

In Alberta all 'private passenger vehicles', VW bug or 45' motorhome all pay the same price - $70.00/year. Insurance rates are determined by a multitude of factors and mine is not bad at $271.00 for $1,000,000 of public liability or property damage. Collision coverage for your own vehicle is based on the vehicle value and for conversions one should have an appraisal to include with the insurance application.

I just put the definition of private passenger vehicle in another post and if you don't meet that definition license fees and insurance go up markedly.

I plated my 1968 MCI 7 with a 1968 Michigan plate.  It is a limited use plate for special occasions, club events etc.  Paid $35 and will never pay another dollar.  Almost all of my camping is with my classic car club and other wise I joined the Converted Coach Owners club.  I should be covered for about anything I need to do.

PS - totally empty weight with RV windows, single pane, no spare, empty bays was 22,960

I was thinking it was $23.  Went back an looked and it is $24.  My mistake.  Oh well.  Still a bargain compared to many other states.
