(He said he could do better at the Junk Yard.)

Yeah, right.  A lot of folks say that...however when the rubber hits the road, the only way they get much out of them it to strip them down...and that takes time!

Jack

Yep, most will tell you a #, but when you get it there they derate the quoted # knowing you have spent a bunch getting it there & aren't likley to spend that much more to take it back home with empty pockets.

I got a quote on scrap price & only when I asked for it in writing did they tell me about the derates for big items.

Not a lot of cash for something pretty new, and some money left over for your own conversion. If your heart isn't set on something more metalic. ;)

Not to contradict you Tekebird, but with interest rates going through the floor, Super needs to forego the CD and keep looking. Patience will find something that might work. You just need to be ready to jump when it comes along. A guy up in Portland Oregon sold an MCI-8 converted complete with diesel generator for $5K about 6 months ago because he needed to make a house payment. The guy that bought it drove it home to Washington State. You just need a little faith and patience. Good luck Super and don't give up so soon. Some of us took several years to find the right bus at the right price, Will

If you want a 5a there are a couple listed in the ads on the other board.
Used to own a 1968 MCI 5A and a 1977 5C.

SP....I'll let you in on the deal I fell into last year. A couple of busing friends invited me along to help get 3 bus conversions running for an estate sale the family was having. I got a 65 mci5a, done by a Professional, all electric with a 15 kw diesel genny, 2 - 2500 watt heart inverters, large hi-lo battery bank, automatic trans and he installed a 83000 btu home boiler for heat and preheating the engine (strange choice but works great) The list goes on and on... The guy put the best stuff money could buy into it. I put new tires on all around and replaced the drive gear for the air compressor, then drove it to Florida, runs great!. I guess it would sell for around $25,000 to $30,000. I paid $3,700.00 for it!
They also sold 2 mci 9's. The nicest one one sold for $13,000 and it was easily worth $70,000+. The other was the worst of them but still a good conversion went for around $3,500.
The chances of you finding a deal like these are about slim to none since they seem to come along when you least expect it. The best way to find a good conversion is to get the word out to as many people as you can to keep their eyes open and never let them forget. You can't be everywhere.
Be patient and keep saving $$$$$
