Upper Penninsula get together?
« on: August 21, 2008, 06:12:04 AM »
I've been tossing around the idea of a get together here and was wondering if anyone would be interested?  I wanted to do something this year but the medical inconviences I had didn't allow it, then I thought maybe towards the end of september before I go and get cut in half, but we could have snow by then so that wouldn't work very well, so my daughter said how bout next summer, I said huh? in my usual very intelligent way (trying to mask the blank look). So what do you guys think, any interest?  I'm sure the cost of fuel will be down to almost giveaway status by then, after all, we'll have someone in the white house that has promised to save us all again.  The spot I'm thinking about is called the Ojibwa Campground, it's here in Baraga on a penninsula that juts out into Keweenaw Bay so it's got water all around it, both 30 and 50 amp service, and level, huge sites, got a marina and a dump station along with a scattering of porta potties, the cost there is 20 bucks a night but I'm sure I could see if the guy would drop it a little, not much to do in the area, we got a casino and stuff like that but would be a good time to kick some tires and lie about our fuel mileage, toss the idea around and we'll see if anyone is interested and if so, then we'll try to put together a date that would work, our mosquitos are starving up here and getting so weak they've had to settle for walking from campsite to campsite.

And if we only knew somebody with a seated bus, we could all pile into it and travel the 30 miles up to an old underground copper mine and see what they used to do 150 years ago, or other fun stuff lol.

The a/c and windows might be nice, the engine is optional if you can get that little league team again lol.

Mom & dad are in Memphis right now as we speak type with another little league team for the week! Altough these boys are smaller, the last groups were 12 yr olds, and these are only 10. So I sent a 40'er instead of a 45! LOL! (that way if they have to push it's lighter!) Also before ya ask CAT. Yes it would be down hill to Kenner, LA ! LOL! Ha beat ya to the punch! ;D  BK  ;D

I'll try to be there if Bryce will drive us all to Lamberts while we are there.

It's up to bryce but I'm thinking that seeing as how this would be in the Upper Penninsula, on Lake Superior, that might be a bit of a stretch lol.

Cody,
Linda and I are in as long as life does not get in the way. It sure is easy to commit to something almost a year away!
But if its like this year, we may have a problem, I just got the bus out last week for the first time since
going to Arizona in January.

I figure we'll all have a year to bat the idea around so that we can do it without conflict with other rallys.  What dates are best for everyone will all have to be determined, as soon as I can get an idea of when and how many I'll blackmail,,, I mean discuss it with the campground manager lol and see what the best rate can be.

Cody, my wife and I would be in depending upon "LIFE"!  We generally take two weeks off around the 4th to go west.  That would be the biggest conflict for us.  AND, since I won't be doing a repower next year I won't have a non-running bus as an excuse!

I went and talked to the campground manager about giving a deal on rates and he said it wouldn't be a problem but he has to get authorizaton from the council, he said they do it on a regular basis for groups.  Another thing I looked into is a friend of mine has a tribal fireworks shop and he said he could probably bring over a bunch of the big stuff and torch it off, being on tribal property they can and do that on a regular basis, it's fun to watch.  I'm thinking some point in june for it but we need ideas on what time frames would work.

Mosquitos shouldn't be too bad, with the tourist season we've had the last couple of years the bugs are so inbred they forgot they can fly, easy to outwalk them. lol
