If you are in the market for a good running classic bus, our bus may be just the ticket. It has an 8V71 Detroit Diesel engine with manual 4 speed Spicer transmission. For some reason facebook is listing it as an automatic. The engine has no noticeable blowby, and oil leakage and consumption are minimal. The radial tires on the bus are approximately 15 years old but have good tread and minimal weather checking. The bus easily cruises at highway speeds, and fuel consumption is approximately 7 to 10 mpg depending on how hard you drive it. The pd-4106 coaches are referred to as the sportscar of buses for good reason as the body and frame are mostly aluminum and the engine has plenty of horsepower.
All operational gauges and lights function correctly. Air system maintains 120 psi. The front driver's side rests faster than the other sides when parked, but maintains perfect air while driving. Likely will need that airbag and/or valve replaced in the future. The parts to fix this are inexpensive. ($20 for airbag and under $50 for the valve). Bus is priced with this potential fix in mind.
The bus has no odometer, so I have no way of knowing how many miles are on it. For RV systems, it has two Onan generators with low hours (less than 300 each). They are older units and we've never tried to start them. Bus comes with a working fridge, sink, bunk beds with organic mattresses and any furniture present in pictures.
Shore power consists of two 30-amp cords/circuits and there are functional 110-volt outlets inside the bus for the refrigerator, lamps, etc. The bus had basement A/C units, but they are non-functional. The 10-gallon electric water heater works and there are two large holding tanks. One for fresh water and the other for black/grey water. Has toilet installed and plumbing line for shower drain is present. The exterior is in excellent shape.
We bought it in May of this year and besides driving it down to Missouri from Wisconsin, we have only driven it on a couple practice sessions. It is parked in a paid RV and semi storage lot in Dupo, Illinois. Our plans and finances have changed due to us both being injured recently by a hit and run driver on the interstate, in our now totaled SUV. We have decided to use our time and energy that would have been on our bus and travels on furthering our education for new career goals.
The previous family we bought it from had it for 4 years and camped in it all over Wisconsin and parts of Michigan and Illinois. We were told it was maintained well by a local diesel shop as well as the owners. Ir. was maintained by the man we bought it from, who was a professional bus driver.
The bus was originally a passenger stagecoach for the Sedalia-Marshall-Boonville Stage Line. Most of the pd-4106 coaches were originally Greyhounds. The original RV conversion was professionally done directly when the coach was decommissioned by the stage line. I understand the bus had previous owners who used it for bluegrass festivals.
Our asking price is $9,000 OBO. Please message if you have questions. No trades.
This 1960 Silver Eagle bus is truly one of a kind. Not only does it have an amazing vintage look but also has been uniquely equipped for off-grid living and boondocking. It has a massive 3,350w solar system, Victron Multiplus 10,000va inverter/charger and a battery bank equal to 33, 12v 100amphour Lifep04 batteries. The whole solar/inverter/battery system is over $30k. It is cooled by a very energy efficient residential minisplit AC (only uses 60% of the power that standard RV rooftop unit uses) and is heated by wood stove, diesel air heater or the heat pump on the minisplit. Our family stayed toasty warm in the bus while visiting relatives in Northern Minnesota over Christmas a couple years ago when it was -9° below.
The queen bed in the back sleeps 2 adults, the basement bedroom can sleep 2 kids and the
couch can fold down to sleep another guest.
The bus is powered by a Detroit Diesel 8v71 with a RoadRanger 10 speed manual
transmission. While you won’t win any races with this bus, it runs good and hasn’t ever left us stranded in the 22k miles we’ve driven it. It has newer tires with tons of tread and a tow hitch on the back that we used to tow our Jeep frequently.
Below are the specifics of the bus.
It is currently at our seasonal campsite in East Bethel, MN and is easy to show, but to save
everybody some hassle, we will only do test drives if someone is really serious. Also keep in
mind, with a bus this old and unique it’s going to be difficult to get traditional bank financing. Your best bet is to have cash available in your account and get a cashiers check for payment.
