Dallas;

Isn't the L 10 an inline? I would think only the s-50 or a v-8/v-6 would work.

Doug,
I'm not sure exactly how long the L-10 is, but the transmission will hook up to anything as long as the engine and transmission can talk to each other, and that just takes an electronic interface.

Besides, If you look at the typical installation of an 8V, you'll see an extremely long shaft connecting the fan to the crank.. my feeling is that it would be enough space to add the L-10.

Also, with enough money and enough design by dDisney, anything can be stuffed into just about anything.  ;D

IIRC - all ZF V-drive are for RIGHT HAND ENGINES (like the L10 / series50)  or the TRUCK (RIGHT HAND 6V/8V Detroits)

so anyone having  a TYPICAL L/H engine with an ALLISON V-drive (v730/V731) looking to replace thier trannies wil be SOL

Hmmmm. . . Let's see. . .

An 450 hp ISM tied to one of these set up in five or six speed mode, then stuffed in the tail of a 4106. . .  WoooHooo, what a ride that would be!!

Can you say "speed limit UP the Grapevine???"  Shoot, maybe even the speed limit up I-70 from Vail to the crest of the Eisenhower Tunnel - without Dan's propane injection!!   :D

Of course, the auction doesn't include the electronic brain box - that would be the real challenge (let alone keeping it cool).

Oh well. . .

I wrenched on an early RTS that had a 6V92 with DDEC 2 and it had a ZF trans - V Drive.
I think Songman sold an RTS with a ZF a while back, will wait to hear from him too.  8)

Songman's RTS had a RIGHT HAND DRIVE engine

(Golden Gate Bridge Transit IIRC)

No problem... if you want to go with a four stroke you will be getting a RH engine anyway.

It would make the perfect Christmas present for the bus nut who has nearly everything...

If you work at it a bit, you should be able to have it in and operational by oh, January 15th or so!  ::) ;D

Yep, Right hand for me. I think all ZFs are for RH rotation engines.

Pete, you might be able to answer a question I had for another RTS owner. His 6V92 needs replacing. He is in NC so needs something on the East Coast. We think we have found an engine/trans for him but it is a 6V92 with ZF. So that would make the engine RH and he would have to replace the entire engine/tranny combo. Any idea how different the mounts are between the 731 and the ZF? Obviously the electronics for the ZF would have to be installed. I also don't know how the ZF would perform with the stock low gearing of the RTS.

Dale,

There's a place up north that has some RTS's with Series 50's and V731's that you might check into....

http://www.atlanticdevelopmentcorp.com/

I called the guy and he said he thought some of them had a Cummins engine also, but he wasn't the boss so didn't know for certain.

IHTH,
DF

IIRC - the tranny (v730 / v731 / zf) just hang off the engine - no mounts ??

Dallas - Those series 50 with thier V731RH  (right hand V731's) could be a very good deal
the ENGINE frames (which usually don't rust very much) will mount to any RTS (96 or 102) -

understand that those RTS's have DISTROYED IRON FRAME RAILS BY THE AIR BAGS -
(where salt gets between the 2 sandwiched U channels - I understand that those RTS
FRAMES are no longer ROAD-WORTHY
