Photo bucket question???
« on: February 05, 2009, 03:50:33 AM »
I did not want to hi jack the other thread.   After posting photos to album on Photo Bucket is it possible to add link to thread to direct people to album on Photo Bucket.

I will be selling bus this year and am posting many pictures. I would like people to be able to access the album without user name and password.

Is there somewhere else I can do that???

Jim,
Once you put your photos on Photobucket, just cut and paste the URL into your post, email, etc. All anyone has to do is click on the URL or cut & paste it. That reminds me, I need to add more photos to me album.

I TOO have been working on my Photo bucket albums. Feel free to check it out but let me warn you, I have a LOT of organizing yet to do! I was just trying to get them ON the site and later on when it gets cold again, I can sort them where they need to be and change albums names etc.. That seems to be the best time to do these type things!

This is the main album address and there are a few more listed on the left of the site!

I have many more pics scattered elsewhere so it will take me some time. Bare with me!

Like Ace, now that it is warming up, I probably won't work on my albums until another cold day. Here are our photobucket albums   http://s682.photobucket.com/albums/ vv186/OBS-JC/  Jack

Jim (jjrbus):

I'm interested in the 'plexiglass ceiling' images in your album - is that clear plastic sheet on top of mirror film? If so I was planning to do mine the same way, and have bought a roll of mirror film for the purpose - but have found that the resulting mirror effect isn't quite as good as a proper 'store bought' mirror (although the result is almost certainly good enough for a ceiling mirror). I'd be interested to know your experience and approach in creating your plexiglass ceiling mirror

thanks

Hey Jeremy, always glad to help.

The plexiglass is mirrored when you buy it, I dont understand the film??  This is gold mirrored plexiglas and is 1/8 in thick. It is very easy to work with, I used every thing but a chainsaw and ax on it. I did most of the cutting on a table saw. If memory serves me right I used a fine tooth plywood blade.  If you cut too fast with a power tool it will chip, too slow and it will melt, it is a quickly learned skill mastered within a couple inches!!  It comes with a protective film on it, I just kept the table saw clean and cut the mirror face down. The only thing I found was do not go anywhere near the back of it with an adhesive or tape, it pulls the mirror off.

It is expensive, this will surprise some that I bought something that was not cheap!! To maintain my image as a cheapskate, I did purchase it from a surplus place in Elkhart Indianna for $12 for 4x8 sheet  ;D

Hi Jim

Thanks for the reply - I have never come across mirrored plastic such as you describe, but it is obviously perfect for the job, so I'll see if it is available here (I could use proper glass mirrors on the ceiling of course, but by the time I was done I'd have spent a fortune getting it all cut and shaped how I need it).

The mirror film I was referring to is sold for creating one-way windows / mirrors etc - but like I say the resulting mirror isn't as good as a 'real' mirror. I actually came across it when researching how to make infinity mirrors - I quite like the idea of making my ceiling mirrors into infinity mirrors, but haven't decided whether or not it could be done tastefully or would make the bus look horribly tacky. I would like to do it though as they can be incredibly effective at making a space look far larger than it is, and I think if the whole ceiling was done as an infinity mirror the effect would be amazing.

I used the plastic mirror at various places in my bus including some small accents in the ceiling. I found colored mirror and regular mirror on ebay at really good prices. You may want to check there!
Oh and the mirror doesn't have to be cut into your shape. You can just use a larger piece and cover it with your design material. My design was cut out of plywood.

I just tried 'plexiglass mirror' and 'plastic mirror' on UK eBay and all the results that came back were from America, but after a bit of experimenting I found one UK supplier selling 'acrylic mirror', which I assume is effectively the same stuff - so that's a good result for me thanks to this thread.

I realise incidentally that you can create a design using a large mirror with a plywood panel or whatever on the surface but, as is usually the way with me, I am making life complicated for myself by trying to be clever - in this case I am wanting my ceiling mirror design to include sliding panels to cover the two skylight openings in my bus roof, and also the edges of my mirror have to be curved in two places, which adds to the difficulty somewhat if I was to use a glass mirror.

But the plastic mirror material is a good solution, so I am pleased to have learned about that

I belive plexiglas and acrylic are the same animal. Plexiglass seems to be what most people call it in the colonys.  I thought of useing real mirror but most seemed to think it was a bad idea. Plexiglass is easy to bend.
Tacky in a home conversion is perfectly acceptable, you should see the rope lites on my roof!  Jim
