Damaged Heart Inverter
« on: September 25, 2011, 10:05:47 PM »
I have an opportunity to pick up a non-working Heart Freedom 20 Inverter Charger REAL cheap.
What are the chances that one could get it repaired. Guess that depends on what is wrong with it. Apparently it has a burned resistor.

Thanks

Fred Mc.

The chances are very slim.  I would not take it unless it was free.

Heart is no longer supported and if you are lucky you might find parts, or if you are skilled you can do board level repairs.

When Sean said "I would not take it unless it were free", I thought "Free probably isn't cheap enough"!

It's a shame to hear that they aren't considered repairable as I have the same inverter (a Freedom 25 in fact). I know they are quite old now, but I think it's true to say that they were more 'built up to a standard', rather than 'down to a price' as the currently models are. I had told myself that this probably meant that they might be repairable, rather than just disposable.

I have a pair of the same inverters and I keep my fingers crossed. However, I also bought a set of internals about 7 years ago and they sit in my spare parts drawer.

My inverters weak spot is the relays, and fortunately if they puke I can get replacements. They are just 30 amp, 120V relays so even if I cannot get a direct drop in replacement I can still do a repair.

I am so anal about them they have a ductwork going into them and I run a pair of fans to keep air moving through them whenever we are using the coach. That is in addition to their internal fans which are thermostatically controlled. In addition every few years I open them up and vacuum and blow any dust from them. So far, so good.

Jon, sounds like you have them well set up and you're up on your maintenance.  Electronics are often just luck of the draw, but you've got the cards stacked about as well as is possible.
