Sounds like it could be related to the safety shutdown. Are you getting any tell-tale lights when it shuts down?  Low oil, hot temperature, low water?

Hiya, John. Glad to see you over here too. Just make sure you don't abandon us over at mcibustalk.com

I would also bet that something is throwing a fit and shutting it down....Now just to find what.

My point is that the symptoms indicate possible safety shutdown, of which temp-stats are one part. They can short out internally and cause the exact symptoms, even though the bus
is not over 200*F. Also, tell-tale lights may or may not be working properly, also (burned out bulb, wiring issues, etc). If you have history with the bus, you should know if
your lights are functionally accurate.

Easy way to test if the problem is safety system related is to remove the wires, one at a time from the temp-stats, low oil switch and low water sensor (if you have one).
If the bus stays running, that's the culprit.

A worn elect relay or solenoid will heat contact slowly then loose contact. When it cools off it will repeat process. I call them ghost! Hard to find. The last one to do it to me was on a MCI 8 and was in line with the ignition switch located in the front elect compartment( a ford like solenoid).  FWIW  Good luck.. one of many possibilities.   Bob

Yep Bob on my 8 the skinner valve would leak by shutting the engine off then when you would turn the switch back on it would reset go 10 to 15 miles it would do it again took a while to figure it like 2 days lol
