Allison B400R ?

My dipstick tube is currently on the passanger side when looking at it in the bus but it would actually work better if it was on the drivers side. Does any body know if the dipstick tube can be moved to to the other side, there is a hole there in the same area just other side but with some sort of clear plug in it that if you shine a light in it you can see somesort of a spring or plunger on it. I didn't want to remove it unless I new what it was or could be switched around. Thanks Jason

Jason, my quick google search came up with this article that specifically states that the B400 dipstick could be installed in either side of the tranny. My guess is that you indeed should have a port on both sides for this. Read page two item #3

Thanks Scott :) That confirms my speculation, It has a hole on the other side with a clear plastic plug in it, I just didn't want to break something or tear something apart that would cause me problems.

Curious...if your fluid level is at a certain hatch mark on the stick currently, you should mark it or take a photo and I'd be curious to  see if it shows the fluid level at the same spot on the stick after moving it to the other side (assuming the bus is level)

Allison actually recommends checking fluid level through the control pad instead of the dipstick.  If I remember correctly, you drive until the transmission is warmed up and then put it in neutral and press and hold the downshift and upshift buttons at same time for a few seconds.  A countdown will start on the display and it will eventually say oK if the fluid level is good.  The display is fairly limited so it is hard to tell that it really says oK.
